2014 Yankees
So it begins...
Girardi resigned at a 4 year deal
Arod suing MLB and Dr. Ahmad, a Yankee physician.

Re: 2014 Yankees
Glad they re-signed Girardi.
We need a one year suspension for A-Rod. If we can get that everything else will fall into place.
I checked but there doesn't seem to be any correlation between how much snow falls in Central Park and if the Yankees win the world series. The following winters in Central Park preceded the last 9 yankees world championships.
60/61 54.7
61/62 18.1
76/77 24.5
77/78 50.7
95/96 75.6
97/98 5.5
98/99 12.7
99/00 16.3
08/09 27.6
The average for the last 9 Yankee championships is 31.7 inches, slightly above average. However 5 of the 9 years were below, 3 above and the last one about average. No prognosticator here.
I suppose we could say 7 of the last 9 deviated quite a bit from average either plus or minus. Maybe we can take something from that.

Re: 2014 Yankees
Hopefully we have a long cold and snowy winter to get through before we start concentrating on Yanks. Hot stove league has started though, it will be interesting to see what they do this off season.Noreaster wrote:Cant be worse than the 2013 Yankees. The injuries were ridiculous!

Re: 2014 Yankees
Yanks sign Brian McCann. Pretty solid acquisition, but price tag is interesting.
"McCann, widely regarded as the top available catcher on the market, will need to pass a physical before the deal becomes official. The Yankees have not made an announcement regarding the signing.
The deal includes a vesting option for the 2019 season that could push its overall value to $100 million, a source confirmed to MLB.com. It also contains a full no-trade clause.
McCann, who will turn 30 on Feb. 20, spent each of his first nine Major League seasons with the Braves, making seven All-Star teams and winning five Silver Slugger Awards.
McCann has hit at least 20 homers in each of the last six seasons and owns a career split line of .277/.350/.473."

Re: 2014 Yankees
Jacoby Ellsbury at 7/152. Crazy money. Not a fan but a good ball player when healthy.

I loved getting MCann but this makes no sense at this price. Same money Black Sox spent on Crawford and they couldn't wait to get rid of him.

Re: 2014 Yankees
I'm puzzled myself. But he stole 50 something bases last season in only 120 games played. Good base runner. Probably a contract where we hope he excels the first 4-5 years and just eat the rest.CPcantmeasuresnow wrote:Stupid signing.Frank_Wx wrote:Jacoby Ellsbury at 7/152. Crazy money. The Yankees are approaching 1/4 billion dollars in signings this off season and the haven't even finished yet, astounding.

I would not have signed him for the contact he got. 4 years at 25-26 a year with a 5th year option is all I would have gave him.Frank_Wx wrote:See ya Cano

They offered 7 years and 175 million. His father said the Yankees were disrespecting his son.Quietace wrote:I would not have signed him for the contact he got. 4 years at 25-26 a year with a 5th year option is all I would have gave him.Frank_Wx wrote:See ya Cano

If there's anyone out there that wants to pay me 25 million a year for the next 7 years to play baseball, you can disrespect me all you want.
Actually what they offered is as high as I would have gone. See ya Robbie, we need your money for some pitching.

Very happy about Beltran and MCann, thought they overdid it with Ellsbury but hes a solid player when healthy.
Will miss Cano but not at that price. GrandyMan a great guy but hes a strikeout machine, will miss his homers though. Not sure how he's going to handle the fences at Citi Field.

And I'm hoping beyond 2014 Frank, although no way he walks away from 61 million for his last 3 years. I wish he would just go away, but that's wishful thinking.

He said yesterday he is going to use 2014 to rest mentally and physically then look to be back with the Yankees for the last 3 years of his contract.
I hope Yankees do not let that happen and just release him. Just pay him that $60M owed and let him go. What an albatross.

Re: 2014 Yankees
Yankees sign Masahiro Tanaka for 7 years 155 million. They can opt out after 4 years.
Personally i think they gave him too much money, though its a good signing to sure up the middle of the rotation.

Re: 2014 Yankees
I have so many problems with this signing and i hope i eat crow over them and he turns out to be advertised as his last year record shows. But.....At 25 yrs old, he has already thrown the same amount of innings as a 30 yr. old. In the playoffs last year he threw 163 pitches in one game and came on in relief the next day and threw two more innings. Here we dont let our starters go more than 110-120 (maybe that's why there are so many TJ surgeries, dont know. Last year his ERA was 1.24, the 4 previous years it was in the 4's (Maybe he knows A-Rod's doctor, who knows). Japan's Major Leagues are the equivalent of our Triple A system, now take him out of that and put him in the AL East, thats a huge step up in competition. Let's just hope he turns into more of a Yu Darvish than a Kei Igawa. For that much money for an unproven guy we could have gotten Garza and whoever to fill out the back of the rotation, 2 guys for the same money this one is going to cost. BTW, how do you think CC feels about making less money than somebody who has never thrown a pitch in the Majors? I really hope and pray that i am wrong and this kid is lights out but there are too many factors involved. How many days til pitchers and catchers?
