And you lose the 15th overall draft pick. Surprising move.

Exactly, Frank and Dunz. This guy Cuddyer is a beat up old wreck.WTF are they thinking. Those GD Wilpons trying to do this on the cheap again.Would rather see den Dekker or Niewenhius the rookies grow in that left filed position.

Great news for this kid.He was unbelievable this year.To think they were grooming him as a starter.Typical Mets coaching staff idiocy.

With Madden's magic and great young rookie team, they have a shot at breaking the curse.Gonna be electric at Wrigley, a classic old park.Good for them!!!!!

Read in the Bergen Record some of the voters have had the feeling Mike used performance enhancing drugs even if there wasn't any evidence to that fact. Bobby Valentine commented he had no respect for some of the voters.
Next year,Mike.

I am organizing a group outing to Citifield on Sunday June 28 and with the ticket you get a Mike Piazza shirt! If anyone wants to go, let me know, I'm taking reservations now, money due in April. $41.25 per ticket for left field under the overhang so no worries of heat or rain! LGM!

Re: 2014-2015 MLB Off-Season Thread
So far Yankees have gotten younger but the starting rotation still concerns me. They'll have to rely on bounce back seasons from various players (Tex, McCann, Beltran, A-rod...)
I kinda like the Mets. They could use another bat and some bullpen pieces as well. But they should be better than last.

Frank:
You're a Yankees fan, don't ever utter those words, "I kinda like the Mets again".
It's almost as bad as saying I kinda like the Red Sox.
As Marlon Brando said in Apocalypse Now, "The Horror"

Haha, well there seems to be a decent amount of Mets fans on the forum and they're not in our league, let alone division.

Re: 2014-2015 MLB Off-Season Thread
CP, I was a Yankee Fan from 1960 to 1962 when there was no National League NY team.I saw the 1961 classic Yankee Team with Mantle and Maris .Was listening on a Jap transistor radio the night Maris could have tied the Babe's record, 60 home runs in the same amount of games as the Babe. They were playing Baltimore that night.Maris came into the game with 58 and hit number 59! He had one more at bat but they had the knuckleballer Hoyt Wilhelm pitching.Maris sent one to the warning track but no cigar, and the friggin' asterisk came into being that friggin' night.Heard the amazing and classic Phil Rizzuto announce number 61 Maris hit off Tracey Stallard of Boston.Mantle had 54 in early September but got injured for two weeks.Always thought he could have hit that number 60 as well. They were a great combo, Mick and Roger!
Never forgave the NY Sports Media for hounding Maris for the breaking of Babe's record and for the asterisk they always placed.Maris did this on his own talent, there were no roids back then!
My parents, diehard NY Giant Fans from the 1930's, said "no more Yankee games in this house" from April 1962 on with the Mets being organized.
Ya gotta listen to Mom and Dad ergo....I'm a diehard Mets Fan now,LOL.
Thanks for indulging me on this dreary cold and dry night, I'm a little boozed up from two wines,LOL!

Frank,I thank the Good Lord he made me a Yankee Fan those years.
Of course, there was heartbreak as well. Was listening on the same transistor radio walking home from School the afternoon ( World Series Games in 1960 were DAY games) when Bill Mazoroski of the Pirates hit that home run off Ralph Terry and Yogi (playing left field that day) watched it sail over the left field wall with the Pirates winning the 1960 World Series. I was almost ten years old and, sorry to admit this, cried like a baby.
They fired old Casey Stengel for that one,LOL!

Really, really disappointed in the Yankees offseason.
Wouldn't surprise me if they finish dead last.

Trading IMO their best young pitcher Shane Greene for a no hit SS and then they sign Stephen Drew afterwards made no sense. Watch Greene win 18 games for the Tigers this year. If that happens Cashman should be fired.

Totally agree, and I feel like the Yankees are allergic to rookies.
Why waste $5 million on Stephen Drew to play 2B instead of giving Pirela and Refsnyder a try?
Remember, it was a rookie SS who helped start the dynasty in 1996.
At least Betances will get a chance to close the few games they win this year.

Re: 2014-2015 MLB Off-Season Thread
I'm not a Yankee Fan but you guys both make great arguments.Sadly, the Yankees in recent years have been hanging thier hats on aging, creaky "superstars" and totally neglecting their rookies.Rookie premium pitching is the key to future playoff seasons.Look at how KC's rookies came together this year.I think the Yankee mentality of "we've got to win the World Series" every year leads to poor decisions like this.JMHO as a baseball fan.
