All the great starting pitching won't matter without bats to back them up. Earth to Alderson........

I've been watching baseball 54 years and I can say that there is something fundamentally wrong with this team. The manager, coaches, GM and owners are just not clicking together properly to produce a winning team.We are now in the basement as I predicted last week. They can't hit.Last night, two innings with bases loaded and one out and no runs scored.Inexcusable and the hitting coach HAS GOT TO GO!!!!! Terrible fundamental errors being made on the basepaths and Danny Murphy is afraid of going ass over teakettle and throwing badly eliminating possible double play balls.

I'm a diehard fan and will stick it out, but this franchise will sink into the ground as fair weather fans desert the ship in droves.Alderson, the manager and the coaches better come up with something fast to right the ship.

It's the old story Doc, you can't cross the finish line without the horses. Besides the obvious players, the team is loaded with Triple A players at very best. The best coaching in the world wouldn't help. It's the almighty dollar and $85 million payroll ain't going to buy you much these days.

Strange game last night with that bizarre infield popup rule play.Just love this kid Campbell...he hits AND fields and can play anywhere.Wally Bachman was right when he sent him up to the majors, the kid was his best player.Nice to see Grandy breaking out, real good news there.Niese solid and steady. Mejia looking good as a closer.Great time to get a winning streak going with Arizona coming in.

Campbell seems to be very productive. He's also a catcher, which is nice since they don't have an established starting catcher. I had a thought early on that that Mejia would be a closer or some sort of set up guy. Lord knows the bullpen needs the help.

Mejia wants to be a starter because he's afraid of arm injury in bullpen work. They are trying to convince him to forget about that and be a closer. So far, it's working but I hope the kid's arm doesn't suffer. He's had injuries the last few years. You're right about the bullpen.Shaky at best.Mejia may be just what the doctor ordered.

Good to have that backup catcher.D'Arnaud is out for a while and this rookie catcher they brought up needs a lot of work in throwing guys out at second. He's sidearming it and the ball tails off into the outfield. No good as other teams will run their butts off stealing knowing that.Recker isn't bad, hits once in a while and can throw to second pretty good.

As we've said, Alderson gets an F minus for his bullpen building, if Mejia can be that guy, maybe that was part of the plan. As an owner, I'm not concerned if my player "wants to be a starter". You do as you're told, I sign the checks.

Agree 100% on that.My concern is this gets into Mejia's head, trying to avoid an arm injury, and ruins his effectiveness as a closer. So far, he seems to be enjoying the role and giving it his all. This is what a manager and the pitching coach are supposed to do.We'll see how it works out.

He's definitely been injury prone.

On a side note, I'm told that the bays are lighting up with Fluke and big blues. Besides taking a few casts the other day I haven't 'officially been out fishing yet'. I'll post on the fishing forum if anything exciting happens over the weekend.

Nice to see that, but they couldn't score well against a crappy team.Hitting is spotty and inconsistent.

Glad to see Toronto on a hot streak with Dickey and Reyes both doing well.

Absolutely, Dunz, I've been calling for weeks to fire that hitting coach. Also, I've been calling since last year for these guys to take batting practice with a REAL pitcher throwing every type of pitch instead of some joker lobbing a ball in behind a screen. What the frig kind of practice is that? I, at age 63, could rip those crippled ducks they throw in.

Bullpen going to need a lot more than just canning Valverde.Alderson on the hot seat now to produce a good team with trades.

Going to the Pirate game tomorrow with my Mom, sister and brother in law. They better win.Last year we went twice and they lost both times.

I'm not making excuses for Alderson Doc, you've heard me rant about his lackluster acquisitions for the bullpen. I do believe however that budgetary constraints have impeded his progress build the team. Had he not made the deal with Chris Young for $7mil, they might have been able to swing the deal with Drew. Not really sure who they can trade either. Would anybody want any of these players besides the obvious?

LOL, Dunz, someday I just may do that.We were five rows of seats up just to the right of the Mets dugout.Brought my glove as always.Just missed a foul ball two rows back! Been waiting 50 years to get a ball,LOL!

Nothing compares to being there, especially when somebody jacks one like Davey and Lucas.Mom had a blast!

Great to see Wheeler do what he's capable of.Also nice to see Chris Young get a homer. He has power.Maybe with Eric Young out, Chris will get more playing time and hit better.

On another note, read an article the other day where the fired hitting coach Hudgeons was criticizing the SNY team for daring to question his lousy hitting tactics.Got news for you Pal, suck it up, you stunk and you'd better come up with new hitting tactics or you'll never work again.SNY was 100% right, especially Keith, who knew how to hit.

Doc, that's what I like about the broadcast team for the Mets, they tell it like it is, don't make excuses for bad plays and bad plate appearances. They should hire Keith and Ron as consultants, they know what they are talking about...

Tough loss after 14 innings.Loved their spirit, though. They kept fighting back.Best moment of the game for me...Abreu stealing second .Also, he drove in two clutch runs with a double.Good pickup by Alderson as well as Colon. This old man loves to root for the old timers on the team.Hope they can bounce back with a win today.
