Mets 2015 Season

Post by Frank_Wx on Tue Feb 17, 2015 1:32 pm

Mets fans have a lot to look forward to this season with the return of Harvey. In addition with DeGrom, Wheeler, Niese, and a couple of others...I feel the Mets have the 2nd best rotation in their division behind the Nationals. It's just a matter of whether or not they can score runs and if their bullpen is any good.

Bullpen I'm not worried about with Mejia and Familia. What worries me is Collins giving Parnell the closer spot. Can't stand him and never did, Mejia much better after his first year closing than Parnell after a couple.

Not impressed with Cuddyer, another aging wreck plus Wright on the decline after last year. They did not solve the shortstop problem, Flores marginal at best.Lots of doubts in the hitting department.I expect slight improvement this year with them firing Collins at the end of the year and hopefully giving Wally Backmann a chance and the Wilpons spending some money or trading Niese or Gee for a better bat.

Harvey's BACK! And deGrom looked good too. Excited for them this year. Anyone going to Opening Day?

BTW I am organizing a group outing to Citifield on Sunday June 28th against the Reds. It's family fun day, with all kinds of things for the kids. We are sitting in LF first level and you will get a Mike Piazza jersey tshirt for $41.25 per ticket. And kids can run the bases after the game. If anyone is interested, let me know. Going to be a fun day and it's a perfect gift for Father's Day!00

Well, injury curse due to incompetent medical staff strikes again.Wheeler needs UCL surgery taking him out 1/1/2 years.Read today Alderson felt this was inevitable as Wheeler as been in pain all last year.

Gee gets back in as a starter.Maybe we get to see Matz or Syndegaard this year.Harvey and DeGrom look great. So it's Niese, Gee and maybe oldtimer Colon can still get some wins.

Montero gets Gee's bullpen spot.

Good thing the pitching is deep or this could have been a total disaster.Opens the door for Matz or Syndegaard.

Keep in mind that the Mets AAA baseball team is in Las Vegas in the dry heat, which is brutal for pitchers. The sooner Synderguard and Matz come up, the better.

Doc you are so correct. We have been bitching about the lack of power, the fragmented infield, in particular the short stop, the lack of solid position players in the outfield besides Legares and even D'ranaud at catcher hasn't blossomed like he should have, and they're just going to let Murphy languish for the season and then he'll walk just like Reyes. These bozos Wilpons are the worst owners in the MLB and they expect us as fans to be on board?? If I have to hear Alderson speak again about how great the team is going to be on paper, seriously?? give me a break. What's the harm in just admitting that the team is financially hamstrung from Madoff and they're on total re-build mode for the next 3 years? And never mind his book, really couldn't care less, no more excuses. This is New York, build us a world class team, something for us to be proud of! Or get the hell out.

I'm normally excited this time of year but I see another sub .500 team in the making and all the Wilpons care about is razing the junkyards in Flushing so they can brag to their croanies about how terrific their real estate portfolio is, oh and by the way, we also have a baseball team across the street.

Sorry just had to vent.

With Wheeler down, they will bring them up.Especially if Gee and Niese can't do the job. Can't say about Colon, he is aging.

Nofo, great to hear from you, and you can vent about the Mets anytime. It's been a Dark Age in Metland with the evil Wilpons at the helm blowing money the team could have used greedily investing with that scumb_g Madoff..Being a Fan of this team requires a lot of patience. You won't be in a World Series for 15 year stretches.Still a lot better than the Cubs,LOL!

So, I agree with all of the above, no way this is a playoff calibre team. They are depending on rapidly aging and injury prone Wright and Cuddyer not to mention Granderson.Murphy will do his bit, good but not spectacular.Only hope is homegrown talent and hope to hell Alderson can trade some young pitching for a young, consistant 300, 200RBI 30 homer type of hitter.

I'll stick with them as always but in the last ten years or so, I have been following other teams, great stories like KC just to get a lift.

Mets won 6-0 against the Yankees today, Harvey looked great, 2 hits through 6 innings. Just a reminder I am hosting a group outing June 28th at 1:00 at Citifield. $41.25 per ticket for lower left field under the overhang. I have 20 folks already and would love to get more. Open to anyone, friends, family etc. If you are interested, pm me your info.

Great news about Harvey. We are really going to need him this year with Wheeler down.Niese, Gee, Harvey, DeGrom with Colon .Would love to see them give Matz and Syndegaard a spin, probably likely if Gee or Colon craps out.

Mets fans,

I'll be at the game April 16th. My friend got some sort of 3 for $33 deal and asked me to go. I also get a Matt Harvey tshirt! I'll probably give it to my cousin since he's a huge Mets fan. Hope it's a good game. I've never been to Citi

Citifield is a great stadium...I saw that deal and was tempted to go then too! But I'm going Opening Day and it would be a lot for one week.

I think you'll enjoy it Frank. It's a great field and the front resmebles the old Ebbet's Field in Brooklyn.I'm going twice in May and July bringing my 94 year old Mom, both of us Mets Fans since 1962.

Yes, the one thing the Wilpons did right was build an aesthetically pleasing stadium with fun for all ages and terrific food. Frank mentioned that he got some sort of deal. Not sure where those seats are but another redeeming quality is that actually can walk right down to just above field level and hang out. They encourage fans to enjoy the whole place and not just stay in your seats like Shea. So for fans its a very user friendly park.

And yes Doc, I'll always live, breathe (and bleed) orange and blue.

Even though there may be more that you can do at Citi Field than at at the Old Shea Stadium, the one thing I really liked about Shea was the dimensions. The Shea dimensions were pretty much even both ways. When Citi Field opened in 2009, we saw how asymmetrical the ballpark was. Not only are the dimensions quirky, the stands in the outfield are too close to fair territory. They should have built Citi Field with the same dimensions as Shea had because it had in impact on the players swing, especially David Wright. Even though Yankee Stadium has a much shorter right field than left field, the fence is much smoother. Also, when they built their new ballpark in 2009, it was with the same dimensions as their old ballpark. Yes, the Mets have moved in the fences twice now (once in 2012 and the other this year), but the "Mo Zone" in right field has not been moved in and its still not even.

Don't get me wrong I am a Met fan, I'm just disappointed with how they couldn't keep their dimensions from their old ballpark like the Yankees did with theirs.

Totally agree with the inner dimensions being quirky and asymmetrical, definitely not a fan of that. I thought I heard that they designed it for Jose Reyes (and that type of player) to get inside the park home runs.

Yes, the original design was bizarre and now it has been tweaked again. If they really designed a mega dollar stadium with one player, Jose Reyes, in mind, that is just ridiculously idiotic.Especially since he was traded,LOL! The original design really short circuited Wright and he has yet to get back to his old productive form.I think it has gotten inside his head.We are relying on aging wrecks, Wright, Cuddyer and Granderson for power.Duda and Lageres better literally step up to the plate.Murphy is not a home run hitter. One good thing about the original design is that it benefitted our pitchers. Not so much now.

Instead of tweaking stadium dimensions, how about we "tweak" the Wilpons right out of ownership and get an owner with money dedicated to making this new York team number one in the World!

well you can't make this stuff up, someone just sent me this link:

Next time I'm in the area I'll have to see if such a billboard exists. The Jet fans were able to do it with Idzik, I saw the billboard on Rt 80 near Hackensack, maybe there is hope, haha!

Re: Mets 2015 Season

Post by docstox12 on Sat Apr 04, 2015 11:59 pm

Ummmm.....Let's see if the team even makes any progress after the last 9 years before wearing a shirt like that.Alderson's 90 game win prediction last year was totally bogus and I think all it did was to piss off every team in our division.Better yet,I can see legions of Mets Fans wearing that this year at the Subway Series at Yankee Stadium,LOL.It will piss off the Yankee Team and watch what happens!

If we make the playoffs and get in the World Series, then I think the Fans can wear a shirt like that.Got to be earned!

Still major defects on the team and I say this as a Mets Fan.....Pitching is good but we depend on three aging wrecks for hitting, Wright coming off a terrible season at age 32, Cuddyer, an aging wreck at 36 and Granderson, spotty hitting at best and a Yankee discard.Gonna depend on Duda against lefties? Can Murphy repeat...not a HR hitter.

Still depending on Collins, just a so so average manager. His record sucks....yeah, I know look what he had to work with. How about giving Wally Backmann a shot, he works wonders at Triple A!

They need to trade for a young .300 average 20HR hitter or two .The great pitching will get you nowhere without consistent run production. How many 2 to 1 or 3 to 2 losses will there be?

So, after watching only two games, my analysis above is sadly spot on concerning the Mets.A great pitching effort by De grom wasted when aging wreck Granderson is struck out with the bases loaded.Cuddyer looks like a jerk striking out later on with a pitch almost in the dirt.First two games, Wright, Granderson and Cuddyer do little. You can't expect guys in their mid to late 30's to carry a team when their bat speed is slowing.

Collins pulls another blunder by short stacking the pinch hitting in favor of another pitcher.Pitcher? We've got an abundance of that we need batting.

My assessment stands until I review again mid season, right before the All Star Game.

Biggest positive last night was That kid Romero? in the 7th and 8th innings. They will need him with Mejia down. The kid has pin point outside paint control.Made Zimmermann look like a jerk,LOL!

Doc, not saying we get to the World Series, just that we will be the talk of NY instead of the Yankees..... but the Mets have a lot going for them this year, improving as we go...
