Re: Wx Banter Thread 2.0

I've seen mild winters turn into below normal summers. So I'm not going to say anything about the summer yet until it gets underway. And btw, last night I heard them speak about showers and possibly snow showers, but last night reminded me of my days in FL. Where did that storm come from? I almost had a heart attack. I was fast asleep and got woken up by a crash of thunder and lightning lighting up my whole room and couldn't go back to sleep for awhile. And the wind lately..... It's like every other day we are having gusty winds. The trees in my area are losing branches left and right.

The lead that NYC had over Boston disappeared today as Boston got 4.7" of snow today for a seasonal snow total of 36.1" whereas NYC is at 32.1" on the season Mad

To change the time stamp, click on "Profile", then click "Preferences" then scroll to the bottom for the Time Zone. In our case, it would be New York (UTC -4).

For what its worth LGA's 36.2" and JFK's 41.4" are still ahead of Bos.

Upton

WILL NEED TO KEEP AN EYE ON SATURDAY AS LOW PRESSURE PASSES NEAR THE REGION. AS THE LOW MOVES EAST OF THE AREA...SOME MODELS DEVELOP THE LOW INTO A DEEPER COASTAL LOW. IF THIS OCCURS...THE AREA COULD SEE MORE IN THE WAY OF PRECIPITATION. THIS MAY RESULT IN WINTRY WEATHER DUE TO THE COLD AIRMASS ACROSS THE REGION. STILL TOO EARLY TO GET INTO SPECIFICS AS THE TRACK OF THE STORM REMAINS HIGHLY UNCERTAIN.

Was it Frank or Scott that put up the Worst spring ever banner tonight?  If I were to take a guess, it would be Frank.

Thus is correct. There's a chance a cut off low pressure sits over our area in Mid April, which means this gruesome weather may continue. I so hope the GFS is wrong.

This actually reminds me of 2000, even though it was a La Nina in the Pacific and not an El Nino.  It was a relatively warm March, but then it cooled down in April and we had plenty of chilly days.  On Sunday, April 9th, we had some snow.  This was before I watched weather forecasts on a consistent basis but after I became interested in weather.  I remember waking up that Sunday before going to church seeing the sudden changeover to snow (and at a heavy rate) and being absolutely mesmerized by the snow.  Towards the end of mass, the priest referred to it as a "heavy blizzard."  Well, it had trouble sticking to the roadways, but it was able to stick on the colder surfaces so I was able to play out in the snow as a jubilant nine-year old.

Here is March 2000 for CPK: http://www1.ncdc.noaa.gov/pub/orders/IPS/IPS-1AE9E825-96D8-4524-9B87-1F1D909153ED.pdf

Easter was on April 23rd and it had highs in the 40s and overcast/rainy conditions (yuck!).  Also our spring break was from April 20th to April 30th, generally chilly, so not fun.  I went with my family into the city on April 26th (a Wednesday).  Ugh! The Weather that day was also miserable.

And here is more information on the 4/9/2000 snow event: http://www.raymondcmartinjr.com/weather/2000/09-Apr-00.html

April 9, 2000 was the day my sister-in-law got married. In Rockland County, I remember about 6 inches and a bit more north toward Orange where I lived. I remember we all made it and it snowed some more while we were at the reception. So I remember that date especially so because it was an April snow and because we all had to drive through it.

Here is my weather synopsis for the year:

Winter: low snow. It sucked.
Spring: cold, rainy, snowy: It sucks.
Summer: very hot. It will suck.

I find myself already desperate to speed ahead to next Dec so I can stand outside, look up at the sky, and ask "Where's the snow?".

Be careful what you wish for, Damian, you may wind up in a Bill Murrayesque Groundhog Day type of scenario where you just repeat the same miserable pattern forever. The way these strorms have been going S and E of us, it may come true anyway,LOL!

Could be worse. We could have still been on the mild stretch and hot weather by now. At least it is cool. Wintry. And unpredictable .
Which is ok by me. Especially if you do get that hot summer you dread

Especially in the past where we went from winter straight to summer with no transition at all. So with the majority here being the cooler weather and winter weather fans. I cant see any complaints

Sorry to all those that WANT snow this weekend, its April enough already! I want sunny warm conditions I am outside Saturdays for the most part from spring till fall and need it to be nice out. Plus I am not buying into that it is going to snow almost the 2nd week in April, yes it has happened but I find it doubtful.
