Re: February 2016 Observations & Discussions
I asked earlier today about Friday and Frank said it would be very minor at best and a little warm, so don't hold out too much hope.

Going to be a lot of melt today on the mountains. Only 12-20 inch base. With 2" of rain I would expect the rivers around here to rise rapidly with the temps and aforementioned weak base.

Re: February 2016 Observations & Discussions
Remainder of snowpack holding temps down for now and also got much colder last night than forecast, woke up to near freezing temps and was only supposed to drop to near 40+. Current temp 41 degrees and expected high near 60, not sure we'll get there. Lots of dense fog in localized areas as well, weird to see this late in the day and no advisories from NWS (figures).

The heavier rain is still 2-3 hours away. Just scattered showers ahead of the front right now

Looks like a snowpack killer and flood disaster where the heaviest amounts of snow 30"+ in NOVA, MD and PA are under barrage of heaviest returns, looks like quite a bit of very heavy rain.

Re: February 2016 Observations & Discussions
My river is forecast to crest 3 feet over flood stage, I hope they account snow melt in this....
http://water.weather.gov/ahps2/hydrograph.php?wfo=phi&gage=BKWN4
Theyre expecting the worst crest in 2 years? That doesnt sound right. Unless theres that much qpf locked in the snow they expect to be released with the rain all at once and the river already swelled from normal. This could be bad.

Snow still on the ground, balding spots increasing though, dense fog and heavy rain, surprised still no fog advisory.

The very little evidence of snow remaining is gone. Only large parking lots have some snow left from there huge snow piles.

Visibility is in the hundreds of feet here and even less in spots, very dense fog and rain. Mid 40s.

55* and cloudy. The fog when I left work this evening was really dense with very low visibility. It was actually pretty cool watching the fog rolling off the snowpack (which was disappearing almost right before my eyes).

There's nothing cool about melting snow and 55 degrees in February.

Haha. Yeah, I sort of agree. But I needed to find the silver lining because there was nothing else I could do. Trust me, I'd trade the fog for another snowstorm (just not next Monday to Wednesday).
