September 2016 Observations & Discussion
Happy beginning of meteorological fall Hopefully we can get a cool down soon so it can actually start feeling like fall.
Looks to be an interesting beginning of the month with Hermine possibly affecting us in a few days.

All this talk about the impacts of Hermine this weekend and we're getting some heavy rain as we speak!

Re: September 2016 Observations & Discussion
Looking at dry and hot weather this week. Temps will be in the 90's by the end of the week into the weekend. Anywhere from 10 to 15 degrees above normal.

Re: September 2016 Observations & Discussion
Interesting fact, the last two years, the highest temperature reading in Central Park occurred AFTER Labor Day. In 2014, it hit 92 on 9/2 (Labor Day was 9/1) and in 2015, it hit 97 on 9/8 (Labor Day was 9/7).
Yes, I have mentioned this on the forum before, but I think it should be pointed out since it will get hot later this week.

September is now a summer month. October will be too in a few years.

For the last four months of 2015, October was the only one not to finish as the warmest on record. Recall the the first and third weekends (and to some extent, Friday the 30th and Saturday the 31st) of October were brutally cold and windy, coinciding with the Mets games at Citi Field. The first weekend being the last three games of the regular season, the third weekend being Games 1 and 2 of the NLCS against the Cubs and the last two games being the World Series games at Citi Field. Of course outside of that, the month was pretty warm, with balmy 70+ days, especially when the Mets were playing on the road. Of course, If there had been games at Citi Field in the five days AFTER the World Series ended (11/1) it would have been balmy there. In fact, it was 70 degrees at 8 PM 11/6. Better yet, they could have played there on Christmas Eve last year. The fans were on a church and at home then and I went to bed the night before Christmas wearing short sleeves for the first time ever.
Anyway, getting back to point, it will be interesting how schools will handle the coming heat. With the water temperatures warm, it won't help the heat much...

For the plains Frank 638 - looks like we roast
We have a strong BH that will be here for the month of Sept as it looks now. It will contract at times and we'll have cold fronts undercut the ridge and get some cool shots but nothing lasting IMO. Said this a while ago we can see AN temps into the 1st part off all due to this ridge. Don't take the ASC units out just yet peeps

It is actually a bit humid today. Breezy at best. Oh so can't wait for another freaking heatwave ugg. Hoping something interesting actually happens this month not teasing tropical systems. Either blow me away or go ots. Lol

Re: September 2016 Observations & Discussion
I have been getting steady bands of light rain since 9:30am. Have had Intellicast radar up all day. One after another band going about far west as Huntinton. Waited 4 days to get something. Amazing.

Re: September 2016 Observations & Discussion
The good news (if it verifies) is tonights 0z GFS brings back the idea of multiple lows crisscrossing the central and eastern part of the US with potential moist tropical enhancement from the gulf or even the Atlantic as conditions become more favorable. Would prefer more eastern US tracks but the further west ones can dig a deep trough in to the entire eastern half of the country after the storm passes and a strong high pressure follows in the northern midwest region cooling everything down, albeit usually only for a little while. Thats what I dont like about east coast storms (Hermine for example, even though it was weird in terms of setup and track and is still sitting out there and only moved about 50-100 miles in the past 20ish hours, concept usually is the same, remember winter) the fact that after it passes, the trough (if any) is extremely short lived and usually followed by a ridge and above normal temps.

Working at night again. Of course we get the nice breeze and spritzes of rain in the middle of the night instead of the day when it was hot. Figures with Hermine.

Re: September 2016 Observations & Discussion
After heat wave is over Saturday, a front is expected to come through the area late Saturday night and bring less than an inch of rain. Humidity will be less felt by Sunday.

What a warm night, especially for Sept. Down to 82 now after spending most the night in the upper to mid 80s.

I hope your right because I really HATE this kind of weather. I'm counting the days until Winter begins. Can't wait for some nice cold temps. Highs in the 20's and lows in the teens and single digits. Now that's what I like. NICE !!!!

Re: September 2016 Observations & Discussion
92 here..tomorrow maybe last 90..?
If it can stay at or above 80 till midnight it'll be the first 80+ degree low temp ever recorded in Sept in Central Park. Same for Newark, and would be the 2nd time for LGA. (other time was Sept 2 2010 at LGA)

Re: September 2016 Observations & Discussion
Above normal temps persist through the weekend into the first half of next week. By the end of next week, a large Canadian High may track north of the area to help bring temps down to normal. That could be our first Fall-like feel of the season with lows possibly in the 40's.

Was tracking it on my phone at the Westwood football game. I knew it was close, heard screaming on the west side of the field as it moved in (no light precip, just sudden downpour!) and saw it coming at me, ran to get in the ambulance just in time! Got .5"
