Last 1/2 hour snow has lightened up considerably. Actually don't like the look of the radar. Just like the minor event the other night the moderate to heavy returns south of me move this direction and dissipate. Then east of here they get under good returns. Western Suffolk back through Queens may be in trouble the next several hours. Hope I'm wrong.

My friend in Atlanta was supposed to get 4 inches. They did not even get a coating. I'm thinking the H5 southern stream energy was best depicted on hi res models as they showed a more northerly track with that feature. The convection down there was potent last night. There were warning signs, noted by many on here, everywhere that models will bust low. It's kinda sad the NWS didn't see it but that's a different conversation. This will turn out to be a very good snowstorm for the area.

Thanks for all the great work Paesan. What do you think of the radar. I'm no expert but so far not really impressed.

16.5 and moderate snow. Not sure how long it lasts up this way but already surprised we're getting any snow.

Hot air balloon for noon canceled, if you were on your way please turn around.

Frank, you must feel somewhat vindicated as you stuck with this event all along, and now it appears that it is even going to outperform even your expectations.Good work.

This storm long after its over and logged into the winter storm records will be a learning experience for pro mets and amateurs alike. I threw in the towel yesterday like most of us after the 12z runs. We use the models for guidance; the pro mets also have the knowledge of upper dynamics and how everything should work out. Then when a weather event like this happens, we all take a step back and try to figure out what and why it happened. Bottomline is this hobby can be quite humbling at times.

Uptown is ASLEEP on this storm and it's really not a good look. Their snow map still says 2" NYC last I checked. Mt. Holly is all over it, however...

More precip futher S & E you go.  Semantics. The difference btwn 5.5 and 6.5"  6 the magic number.
I bet around JFK gets significant more then say Riverdale or Wash Hts tho. They say possible 8" in the rockaways

Well, the dry air and CAA as i feared is still happening, BUT it's not happening for much of NJ, maybe extreme NWNJ and NE PA. Kind of figured this would happen based on passed experience and that 300mb jet last night was a clear indication this would over-perform. Now a WSW for NYC. Also depicted by Anthony Masiello (meteorologist for the Mount Holly region) are gravity waves seen on the WV imagery. This enhances a fronotgenic slope which induces an expanding and healthy snow shield. Also makes sense as to why we're seeing more banding in a SW to NE position. Currently here in Springfield, NJ - mod snow with about an inch already. Roads pretty bad. Peak of storm now about happening into the early afternoon hours. What a storm this has turned out to be!

20* and steady light snow with a dusting so far in Hyde Park. I am on the northern fringe of the precip field here in the mid-Hudson valley but happy I'm seeing something atleast.

Radar doesn't look too good north of CNJ. Back down to light snow here, still have only a coating on the ground. Not sure if I'll even make it to uptons predicted 2"-4".
