The result of this was a day yesterday practically useless with occasional praying to the porcelain God. Ugg I'm still not 100%. I digress.
This ended up a great storm for LI. I ended with 10.4" as my avg total. Flurries started about 10;30am, but steady snow started for me around 11am. I went out about 7pm last night and measured 9". I averaged over 1" per hour rates throughout that time. That said the first 2 hrs of snow were light. There were def periods throughout the day where I was seeing 2-3"/hr rates. Very fun to watch. It came to a close about 10-10:30pm where I picked up that additional 1.4". Great storm for us given the model mayhem; however, it could have been sooo much better. There were 2-4"/hr rates sitting just off the LI coast all day and did not seem to move. Measuring the distance they were only 25-50miles away. I would like to see totals for the eastern most portions of the south fork of LI. Some of these bands did sit over them for several hrs. I bet there are greater than 12" amts out there. That close to Roidzilla. I am not complaining however.
Here are some other totals reported for the region. A trained spotter within a mile of me measured 10.1" in E Shoreham so I feel good about my total. http://forecast.weather.gov/product.php?site=NWS&issuedby=OKX&product=PNS&format=CI&version=1&glossary=1&highlight=off
LOL, Doc, been there done that but have not put in any porcelain god time since 1978.I would not live through it today at my age!!!
So glad you, Jimmy, and the rest of the Island guys did well on this.We used to have a poster a while ago, Nofork on the North Fork.Too bad he's still not here he would report in form there. They must have got the most I think.

My storm observations are almost the same as you buddy. Identical. Started at 9 and was light until about 11:30. From then till about 9 last night we averaged about 1" per hour here. Great storm. After being outside this morning and seeing some of the official observations from the 2 towns nearest me that each reported over 9" (even though it snowed for an hour and a half after they were made) I'm going to ammend my total down to 10.5" from 11".
Say hi to the porcelain God from me. Haven't seen him in awhile.

Measured 2.5" here this AM, was out last night and roads were snow covered and very slick along the Westchester/Putnam border with varying amounts of 2-4", nice storm to watch and track- thanks to Frank and all the Advanced Forecasters, nice job as always!

Blame it on compaction. Never fails!

Re: January 7, 2017 Storm Observations
Was looking back at videos and realized in my December 29th "New Years" video, I called out January 7th-10th as a period where a snowstorm is likely. Turned out to be true. I believe many forecasters on here had liked that time frame. Sometimes you just know.
