A ha! I usually only access the forum from my phone and the profile/location is so tiny...I didn't even see that. Actually, I'm the only one who posted recently that doesn't have the location in the profile. Lol! My bad...carry on!

They weren't the only ones, Mugsy. Binghamton's forecast for my parents', which is in NEPA, was "20% chance of light snow. No accumulations expected." It snowed for six hours and they picked up 2". They didn't even change it until the event was ending. I have an endless list of rants about that office, but I'll refrain. In any case, it's amazing to me how we work with so little, and they have AWIPS 3 and fully loaded Bufkit, and all this other hi-tech equipment, and we end up verifying forecasts much better and much more frequently than they do. I guess passion trumps complacency, is the lesson to be learned.

Official measurement is 2.1". Quite a surprise. Was just expecting flurries. Roads were snow covered until treated. Temp is currently 28.8 degrees.

That's always the big test Al, they seem to F up the 7pm and midnight measurements all the time, 4pm for whatever reason always is on target.

BTW Doc if you're out there todays measurement is on you, I'm away this weekend.

OK, CP. .75 inch I got when it stopped earlier this evening.

Ended with 1.2" in Cranford. Nice little event. I didn't expect anything over an inch, let alone 2 inches in some spots. Amazing what some enhancement, wherever it came from, can do.

And NOAA has no problem posting those totals and seeing no problem with them? They should be defunded just for incompetence, at least the Upton office should. Embarrassing at the least, fraudulent and deceptive if we want to dig further, time and time again.

In addition to the usual travesty of the Central Park non measurements, LGA reported no accumulations of snow until after 4pm and they never even bothered to correct that. They are a joke.

CP Joe Bastardi posted this today.

What is with Upton? They cant issue a PNS on yesterdays snow. And BTW how does it snow in the park ( drop to 29) liquid amounts are .12 how does EWR, JFK and ISP all have amounts equal to or greater than 10 to 1, but the park and LGA with temps below 32 somehow go 5 to 1. Since I have clients there and we had them alerted to a salting and cindering event I would appreciate if they would follow the lead of Mt Holly and Taunton ( no one out reports Taunton) Since the absurd ASOS reporting took over and they got rid of reports you could just see, you then become dependent on the local offices and are subject to their whims. Remember we are the ones that fund them, Its called Taxes. So yah I am mad

The PNS as of 12:12 pm Sunday is from last week,

http://forecast.weather.gov/product.php?site=NWS&issuedby=OKX&product=PNS&format=CI&version=1&glossary=1&highlight=off

another system they under forecasted, but they apparently could not avoid having to put statements out since 4-6 inches fell on 20 million people where 1-2 was forecasted. This time it was generally 1-2 of light snow or flurries where 20 million people live.

Maybe someone had even more ( a 3) point is they have not put it out.
This is not a statement about most of the other NWS offices who are more than willing to share information with the public.

Pardon my tone I cant believe Upton cant issue a PNS on the system yesterday. NYC and surrounding environs now 2.5-5 above average for the date..

Scott:

This is good to see. If more people of weather prominence like Bastardi would speak up, maybe something will finally be done to fix this permanently. I also blame our local meterologists for a lot of this. They know when they report these totals at CP that they are often incorrect. Sometimes they allude to it, sometimes they joke about it, but more often than not they just go along with it.
