That's debatable. It was a big snowstorm, but hard to make up for an entire winter of me wearing just a light hoodie 90% of the time. And plus after that huge storm there was an intense melt fest. Late the next day like half foot was gone and Tuesday looked like a foot melted. I still consider last winter a disaster.

Wow how one frigin day of model runs can kuse sucked the life out of a place. Jesus tjis was target ed to be a good month with many factors coming into play favorably. Reminds me alot of 2011-12 when thimg looked great in the LR only to fail in the MR. Hey, u never know what the 15th to 15th period can bring us, snow sleet or rain and warmth.

Only winters that I will get excited for in the future are ones that show the -EPO with warm waters in the GOA and ring along the WC with a weak nino.

Honestly, there was so much uncertainty with the LR this winter I don't even want to read the LR. I watch week to week to see if there is anything there and I'm not disappointed. I remember the snowless years in the 80's, so anytime we get snow I'm happy.

Oh, I never bought into February hype. I just went with the , I'll believe it when I see it. The winter showed no change in .... changing it's current pattern. February definitely looks to be colder but the funny thing is on some of the long range days, the ones with moisture are up in the air with either cold rain or snow. But like just discussed, the long range is unreliable.

I for one am not giving up hope yet. Even though the next 2 weeks were supposed to be the time of our life and temps now look like I can bbq a steak next week. But many times I've seen storms gone on the models just to come back 2 days later. See u guys Thursday at 12z. Then maybe, I'll cancel winter. Now if u All don't mind, I'm gonna go roll around my half inch of snow.

If you look at the temps for the jersey shore def not even close to colder some days are even warmer.

Think of this way: Looking at the normals for CPK, The average snowfall through the end of January is 12.1"; it's at 11.0" now. And if they make updates to a couple of undercounts from earlier this month, then the snowfall total would be around the average. Now, if you look at the bigger picture, we have been under a generally unfavorable setup all winter, so the fact that I am at 13.3" so far this winter is a blessing.

so far this winter it sucks Mad

i am not throwing the towel just yet i think we will see a storm coming soon .at least we are not dealing with a winter of 97 -98 if anyone remembers we had no winter at all we had the strongest el nino in history most of our storms were rain and we had many nor easter with no cold air in sight .the only time nyc seen measurable snowfall was in march which was 5.5 inches thats it .then in late march we had 5 days in row of 80 deg

looks like our drought is not improving at all some parts of connecticut still has severe drought conditions . for longisland parts of ny and nj still has mod drought conditions .i know winter is not over yet and lack of snow we are seeing so far will the drought get worse for the spring and summer ??

You guys sound like I did last year. I got 6 ******* inches all of last "winter". When most of you got the blizzard last year I was sucking virga. Nothing, and I mean nothing, could be worse than last year. This year hasn't been great but atleast I wasn't wearing shorts in dec/jan and I've gotten 3 times what I got last year with another 6 weeks left. Lets hope for the best and prepare for the worst.

I found this fascinating since I have relatives in Montreal: Looking at 850 temperature anomalies hr 192 of the 1/31 0z ECMWF OP (7 AM 2/ Cool

the 850 temp anomaly for Montreal would be +24 Celsius. I know it's 850 mb but lets suppose it were to translate at the surface: Normally on the morning of February 8th, it would be -14 Celsius (+7 Fahrenheit) in Montreal. Using that anomaly, it would be +10 Celsius (+50 Fahrenheit) that morning!

Near Atlantic City, we used to put out pansies in the first week of January. It was nice seeing flowering plants in January. Daffodils are starting to peek up through the ground there and some Crocus will come out in about two weeks. Here, I love the change of seasons and the winter but I guess the good old days are getting fewer and fewer when it comes to snow. At least the stream picked up from a mud bed to about 30 feet wide and a foot deep. It has been so dry. Not a good winter for the water table.
