Re: Possible Snowstorm Thursday, February 9th
Word is getting out about this potential storm. Don't know if this is bad luck but I am hoping for more than 4-6"

Two quick questions:
Isn't the warmer weather expected over the next couple days going to effect the snow sticking and piling up?
Will the extreme warm and cold weather gradients help to fuel this storm?

Re: Possible Snowstorm Thursday, February 9th
nah but 4 to 6 is a safe bet and what nws shows but it appears there is potential to posdibly multiply those numbers by 1.5 to 2 even more if is sub 990 mb or slows a bit.Fededle22 wrote:Word is getting out about this potential storm. I wouldn't worry too much about the preceding warm weather affecting the snow sticking. At this time of year, and particularly when the snow starts at night (as this likely would) as long as the temperature gets to freezing it will start to stick pretty quick. Your concern is more of an issue when the snow is falling during the daytime in March/April (stronger sun angle even through the clouds) and temperatures are marginal (just above or at freezing) and the ground hasn't had time to freeze up after a warm spell.

WOW sitting right under the 13 inch marker. That's why I can tell you unequivocally this map is wrong, though I hope I'm wrong.

Re: Possible Snowstorm Thursday, February 9th
FWIW, looking at the 21Z SREFS for LaGuardia Airport, out of 26 members, 15 of them have at least one inch of snow, 11 of them have at least four inches of snow, seven of them have at least 6 inches of snow(!), three of them have a Godzilla(!!) and the high outlier has over 15 inches of snow for Thursday(!!!).
Still a long way to go though.

Re: Possible Snowstorm Thursday, February 9th
Track as modeled now it should start raining very late Wednesday night turning to snow from Northwest to Southeast in the early morning hours Thursday. Obviously the further north and west you are at the quicker change to snow however they will be more qpf over Central New Jersey and Long Island so it could make up for the delay. Very early to put snow totals out there but three to six inches seems like a safe bet at the moment for most of our areatrack17 wrote:Can someone please explain what this means for the jersey shore have asked like 5 times today

I think frank or someone did say if it was too strong that would not be a good thing for the coast
