Re: April 2017 Observations & Discussions
Are we even still in a drought? Even withall the precip we have been having, be it snow or rain? Havent paid attention to that. I know rivers are swollen so tonight could lead to some flooding if not then thursday could really be a fun day. I will be inside with no windows so I will not have a clue whats going on Thursday from about 11-6.frank 638 wrote:With all this rain starting tom and Thur will this end the drought for our area
Looks like nort western NY and central PA west may see a decent snow out of thurs/fri. Mike P. this ones for you, LOL

Looks like storm pushed through sooner than anticipated. Lots of flooding around. I fear it will only get worse. Thursday looks downright nasty. Latest NAM

Everything points to over 2 inches of rain tomorrow. Heaviest between Noon and 5pm. Here's the NAM

Re: April 2017 Observations & Discussions
Frank, looking at 0Z short range guidance, the 3-km NAM gives portions of Northern NJ and the Hudson Valley 2"+ of rain, the RGEM gives an isolated spot on western LI 2"+ of rain, and the 12-km NAM gives nobody 2"+ of rain and even has portions of SW NJ under a half inch. We'll see which one is right.
Regardless, a good soaking should pretty much end drought conditions, if they haven't ended already.

Radar this morning is currently unimpressive. Could be an issue with dry slotting. At least it will make my morning commute easier. Still believe radar fills in later on this morning and afternoon. That's when we'll see the heavier rains.

Right now my main concern is NY, as NWS says river will crest at 22 feet which is technically just at flood stage...

Ahh...anyone else looking at radar rn? There's a narrow slug of rain over e PA moving NNE and outside of that, nothing at all for nyc metro. What happened to our wind-blown rainy day?!

Re: April 2017 Observations & Discussions
Question: Seeing that all the heavy rain is in EPA, does this mean that an inverted trough is over that region at the moment?

Looks like primary surface LP is redeveloping further SE. The heaviest precip is still SW of the area. This will likely rotate through the area as the trough swings through probably mid-late afternoon through early eve. Trough is already negative. There is always the risk of dry slot with transferring systems.

Getting a lot now, thunderstorm and heavy rain. Looks like we could easily see 1-1.5" here today.

Re: April 2017 Observations & Discussions
Truly it rained here from 11 to 6 as if Noah's Ark was coming around the corner. Pouring rain, heavy. My gosh we had to have had three inches or a bit more. I have to check the rain gauge and the weather station. The stream was a trickle in the fall. Today it is about 30 feet wide and about four feet deep. One storm my chocolate lab got caught in the undertow of the drain pipe and got sucked under only to be blown out on the other side of the road. He gave one bark as he imitated the cow jumping over the moon. Today is not as bad as that but if it keeps raining tonight and tomorrow like that, flooding will occur and be bad up here.
