If we had gotten hit with a big storm this snow would have gone nowhere anytime soon. If we get hit Tuesday I wonder how long the snow will last. For like the next 7-10 days the forecast still says high temps won't even get near freezing. I feel sorry for those standing in the NYE party in the city. I'll be home nice and warm.
Good point Hector.Had we all gotten a foot of snow a week earlier, we would be looking at a nice long stretch with a good snowpack.I barely have a few inches and 'possibly" will get an inch tomorrow. This is reminding me of the 1976-1977 winter, brutally cold but dry.Not my kind of winter at all.Hardly any snow and my heating bill goes way up.

Interesting stuff. The warmest and coolest temps for the ball drop NYE. It looks like 1996 was a very cold episode, factoring in wind.

I was there for 1997. We mistakenly thought the reason it was such a miserable time was just due to the extreme cold so we went back the next year - only to learn it still wasn’t fun.

I've done it three times (long ago when I was younger and not as smart), the first two times with similar temperatures to this. I'd be lying if I said it was fun. Why I did it a second and third time, I don't know. My recommendations for NYE: stay home with a few cocktails, or go to a nice, warm, neighborhood bar that doesn't attract big crowds.
Sure there’s a reason. Millennial. They don’t work and they can post their pics on soacial media and beg people to contact them
I hope they ALL get hypothermia
LOL, Millenial's are considered those born in 1982 and beyond. So those born in the 80s such as myself still do have good work ethic (I own my own business) and grew up without social media. But let's face it. Some generation X people are worse on their phones than millenials.

Did the NYE Times Sq thing once, only because I has friends visiting from FL. It wasn't so bad, but it helped temps were in the 50s. I remember hiding drinks in Snapple bottles.
Walking around the last few days I can't imagine being there this yr. Especially those people at the front who must of been there the whole day to get that spot. Wouldn't be surprised someone loses a toe.
Ball drop weather history from NWS. Interestingly it's a little better chance historically of it being relatively mild than very cold, and much more likely to be above freezing than below.

Many people there wear adult diapers because they’re standing outside for 8-10 hours. I SWEAR I HOPE THEIR PISS FREEZES AND THEY GET FROSTBITE ON THEIR GENITALS.

Jimmy, you are killing me here! I was just thinking the same thing, at my advancing age pushing 70, the availability of a rest room is a prime concern,LOL.Just how the hell do you get to a toilet down there with all those crowds?Forget the adult diapers, I'll be wearing them soon enough,LOL.The thing that cracks me up is that I'll bet most of these young people are all firm believers in global warming and they will be freezing their arses off that night.PRICELESS

yea doc and if the ball freezes and can't go down and they can't get to a bathroom they don't seem to care. I think it is just to say they were there no matter if they mess themselves are not.

This really applies not just to NYE for me but all events anymore. I guess I’m getting old. Lol. I mean sitting in 10* weather and snow to watch a football game used to seem like a great idea to me. Now I can’t figure out why I wouldn’t just watch it from a warm bar stool or my own cozy sofa.

Frankly it’s one reason why baseball will always have more charm for me. I can be watching the worst baseball team in the league with 90-plus losses (and believe me, a couple years ago I was) but if it’s a clear 75/80* evening it’s a beautiful night out to enjoy a game. Imagine having to sit in10* weather to watch the Cleveland Browns win one game every two years? I’d never do it.

Give me my warm home and remote with a bathroom and call it a night. It is for amateurs imo. Especially today where you are locked in for 8 hours. Back in the day youbraom2d around at will. Anyway Syo you are too funny. Watch the news report about how hundreds went to local area hospitals to have their genitals thawed from frost nip and bite!!

25 years ago , I went with my buddies to tailgate and go to Jets game at the Meadowlands. It was around 32 degrees.HOURS outside in that cold and sitting still.I have never been so cold in my friggin' life.Came home and sat in a hot tub of water for hours trying to warm up.And I was only 42! Today, I'd be in intensive care if I did that.

Doc, who knew you were senior man here? You make me feel brand new at 63. I don't know what young people do on Sat mornings but I am sitting with a cup of coffee and eggs, watching the light snowfall. About an inch so far and I am looking at the six bird feeders. Cardinals, a red headed woodpecker, blue jays, juncos, titmice, chickadees, and two beautiful bluebirds are showing up. So pretty. This is why I pay exorbitant taxes: to see a change of seasons.

I’m not suggesting linkage, but after I took my Christmas tree down yesterday I set up this winter decoration in its place. I woke up to light snow and every model since I set it up has trended west (closer to the coast) with the Thursday storm:

Where was this? Looks fantastic. I'm a fisherman as well - brought in a 50 pound citation sized barracuda off of hatteras a few years back. The teeth on those things. And the smell they emit. Great catch!
