Yep, that still sums up my feelings. I don't tell anyone what to wish for, everyone has their own opinions on it, but for me personally the downside of these things far outweighs any upside. As a weather person I certainly have that inherent curiosity of wanting to see what it's like being in the middle of this type of awe-inspiring storm (if I could do so without risking life and limb), but ultimately I just prefer they stay away.

BillG. Totally agree. It’s exhilarating to track and a part of me craves the excitement. I never ever would want a storm such as Florence to hit anywhere. The loss of life and destruction is horrible and too real. It’s life changing. But it’s nature and can’t control, only respect and understand. A snow storm however!!! Thanks for posting.

Yeah that looked pretty bad. No need for on-site reporters to embellish conditions, we all know how bad these storms are.

Also did u catch the wind is blowing against his back by looking at bushes so he is 100% taking it. Twc is trash and that there IS fake news.billg315 wrote:Grselig wrote:What the hell was Mike Seidel thinking!

Well, the good thing about TWC is that both the left and right can unite against this fake news. Wonder if that was a fake video made by a Russian bot. I just heard about the ability to make fake movies!!! Gonna train us to ignore real weather situations!!!!!

It erodes credibility. Some people may choose to ignore legit warnings and potentially put themselves, family, and rescue workers in danger.

To your point Grselig, when legit warnings are ignored, the following happened in 1935 in Florida.

Re: Wx Banter Thread 3.0
To me that was just stupid all around, I bet they did not even notice. Did anyone call TWC out on it and expect a public apology? I think they (someone) would. In fact maybe we should start a petition to get them to. Of all the things to fake this is just stupid, I read somepone did email them and TWC stated that he was exhausted and trying to stay afoot on wet ground, versus thouse on pavement in background. That doesnt explain leaning into the wind in the wrong direction which is obvious by which way that long grass is blowing.

Re: Wx Banter Thread 3.0
And when did the TWC last have credibility? This just puts them below a credibility level, never watching them again to see live footage, although that is the best place but now i wonder how many times they faked bracing the winds etc.Grselig wrote:It erodes credibility. Yeah, Jman. Whatever they had is lost. Is Seidell and crew all frauds. Now what about (and I can't remember his name!!) oh yeah, the famous CNN newscaster (Vandrbilt's kid - Anderson Cooper) when he many years ago tied himself to a tree to prevent being blown away by a hurricane. Was that real?

Seems no one caught that he was bracing with the wind to his back too, hence he would have been more likely to blow over, lmao I just can't.GreyBeard wrote:Just read TWC official response. He was on wet grass Interesting read there docstox.

On another note Helene is posed to strike the UK, how often is it that this happens? In recent years it appears to have become increasingly common, I never recall them being pretty prime spots for tropical systems. Even moreso than here, I think two already hit there this year I believe.

Re: Wx Banter Thread 3.0
I guess one day we will read what the Seidel deal was about when a former employee spills the tea. I guess Seidel won't be setting up on wet grass anymore. Someone should tell him to watch out for wet leaves this fall. Always a danger.

Did anyone see on the news, the tragedy that happened on Thorne Creek in Hazlet, where 2 men drowned. We live on that creek and that was so horrible. I would not go outside in fear I would see one of them. The view on my avatar is the bridge they jumped off of..

Anyone know what's going on over at the American WX website? The server has been down for a few days.

They made out ok thank goodness. There was some flooding in the area but nothing catastrophic. They also lost power for a short time.weatherwatchermom wrote:nutleyblizzard wrote:Anyone know what's going on over at the American WX website? The server has been down for a few days.

New study confirms monster volcano Katla is charging up for an eruption
The volcano is long "overdue" for an eruption, as it has historically erupted once every 40-80 years. The last known eruption in Katla was in 1918.
The studies showed that Katla is emitting enormous quantities of CO2....These enormous CO2 emissions confirm significant activity in the volcano, Evgenia told RÚV: "It is highly unlikely that these emissions could be produced by geothermal activity. There must also be a magma build up to release this quantity of gas."
She points out that more studies are needed to determine if the gas emissions from Katla are stable, or if they are increasing. "It is well known from other volcanoes, for example in Hawaii and Alaska, that CO2 emissions increase weeks or years ahead of eruptions. This is a clear sign we need to keep a close eye on Katla. She isn't just doing nothing, and these findings confirm that there is something going on."
