ahaha yes I saw that standing right in the edge to get hit by the spray. It actually wasn't sunny and did rain at one of but yeah totally did that for effect.

More like the Chuck Bore Us of meteorologists. You gotta love the way TWC stages their live reports. Today they had Jim Canboreme on a sunny day, standing on a seawall with goggles and full rain gear,  rocking back and forth in the spray as the waves battered the seawall, giving his report. Really? Reminded me of last years fiasco of Mike Sidell furiously attempting to maintain his balance while reporting on a hurricane as two guys are calmly strolling by in the background casually talking on their cellphones. Rolling Eyes No

No offense to Cantore, but seriously, if Chuck DECIDED to grow another pinky finger, maybe 1/4 would be a miniature Cantore. Keep in mind, Chuck has to be careful; if he coughs by accident, trees tumble.

Could someone kindly explain to me the controversy over Trump and the NHC hurricane track projection? At the time he was briefed with that map clearly was when the models were showing a direct hit on Florida and some showed it traveling into the Gulf and making landfall there. My guess is the “sharpie extension” was something he or someone else did in response to the obvious question “OK where might it go after hitting Florida?” At that time the Gulf was probably still on the table. Regardless of all of that, what the heck difference does it make? Meteorologist on TV are always speculating about possible paths that don’t pan out - and they’re trained in the field. Please don’t turn this into an opportunity to make this a discussion pro or con of Trump - there are other forums for that. I’m just trying to understand the big deal here and I’m baffled.

yes there was a massive outage of cable internet and phone including tmobile all last night. What's a catchy is they did not release the reason why 10s of thousands from nj to CT lost service for so long.

Frank, I had "service outages detected" on my optimum online homepage last night and earlier today, but up here in Monore HV NY, there were no service interruptions.Sorry you went through that. You don't realize how much you rely on this stuff until it goes out.Far cry from when I was a kid in the 1950's with a black and white tv set with 7 channels and one wall phone without answering machine for the whole house, and NO computers.Funny thing, life went on somehow, someway,LOL.

They used a "fake" model to make that map.

I guess Frank put up a "this space for rent" sign.

Is there nobody else seeing this?

All ads will disappear come Thanksgiving. For now just ignore them. To keep ad free throughout the year costs out of pocket money. Since this is all done as a hobby it is what it is. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks for the explanation,Scott. At least they will be gone for the busy winter season. I know there were issues with ads in the past and Frank did something and made them go away. Thought that might have been the case again.

Have seen some increasing chatter that this will not be an El Niño winter meaning I guess either La Niña or more likely neutral. Either way possibly good news for snow lovers as El Niño winters are generally our worst for snow.

From the New York Daily News 1962 Weather Almanac

TIROS III HAS A FIELD DAY
On Sept.10,1961,Tiros III, the weather satellite ,viewed and sent back photographs of seven tropical storms. They were hurricanes Betsy,Debbie and Esther in the North Atlantic;hurricane Carla in the Gulf of Mexico;tropical storm Orla off the coast of Lower California, and typhoons Nancy and Pamela off the Asiatic coast

Tiros III, a 285 pound satellite, was launched on July 12,1961, in an orbit designed primarily to search out the development of tropical storms.Tiros III confirmed the formation of Betsy and Debbie when they were only "suspicious areas" in the Atlantic.A "suspicious area" is the term used by the U.S.Weather Bureau when limited weather reports suggest that weather conditions are ripe for the formation of a tropical storm. However, Esther was the first full-fledged hurricane discovered by a satellite. She was photographed by Tiros III on September 1oth off the African coast in an area from which no surface weather reports were available."

This was back in the stone age of hurricane detection when it took until 1961 to even photograph a hurricane in it's early development.
