Frank_Wx wrote:Literally no juice with this storm. H5 occluded (closed off) days ago and there was not any new energy injected into this storm at any point once it got to the coast. And we're relying on an inverted trough to deliver widespread snow. Always a recipe for disaster.
Let's see if the radar decides to explode again at any point. If it does it better be soon...
Good point, Frank, because this storm never seemed to bomb out right when it hit the coast.I'm a big radar guy in these Miller B scenarios and had a bad feeling about it .Just glad I got what I have in the LHV.

The NAM got the low placement right and that precip up past LI into NJ, but after that just busted out.

Interesting to note how the radar is blowing up off the jersey shore and filing in a bit all the way up to LI.

It has not stopped snowing since it started this morning, although the accumulation rate has really tapered off. Still coming down, pretty big flakes gently falling.

Re: December 1st-2nd Winter Storm Observations
The storm stacked to late. The inflow of moisture got shunted and the vorticity of the LP stay consolidated around it center of circulation. Models had some things correct but the dynamics of some levels were not seen.
We had a good amount of snow but the BL did not cooperate in cooling things down. If it was 27* with this storm then we'd be measuring double to triple the amounts due to stickage and no melt on contact.
Still may get 1-3" of snow to fall and may get better stickage with temps getting to freezing.
Once skies clear tonight we see temps go below freezing in the burbs (upper 20's)and ice up be careful manana morning peeps.
Hey its Dec 2 and we had a snow event, storm if you will.
Better than a Nov 12 or 15th snowstorm, we know how that played out for winter.

Re: December 1st-2nd Winter Storm Observations
If you were following along this morning, Scott (scroc) and others mentioned the surface low not looking as tucked into the coast as models suggested. I agreed with them. It seems the low ended east of forecast, and as a result, the deform band that essentially every model was showing ended up off the coast. Its very clear on radar the best band is over water. I have a feeling the low ending up just east caused havoc on today's forcast

The 500mb ULL is now to our south and working its way east-northeast. Maybe we see flare up again

34* and light snow has resumed here. The show is over for the most part but at least nice seeing the light snow fall in front of my Christmas lights.

Re: December 1st-2nd Winter Storm Observations
I was never thrilled with the setup to begin with. I'm a simple guy. Give me temperatures in the mid 20's and a nice over running event. When you see the Euro struggle like it did with this at such close range, then you know it's a crap shoot.
Snowing moderately now and sunset has occurred, so maybe I'll squeeze out an inch today. That's a win for December 2.

Ice cubes in your toilets for me guys and gals that those bands expand and rotate in northward as the LP moves NNE. So far I have measured oogatz onthe ground, and have seen oogatz and rain falling from the sky all day.

Re: December 1st-2nd Winter Storm Observations
Back to moderate to heavy snow here. Looks like a band of heavier stuff formed just north of me and is rotating south. Maybe I’ll get an inch or two out of this yet.

Re: December 1st-2nd Winter Storm Observations
First decent snowfall of the season down here just started. Starting to stick on cold surfaces....would love to squeeze an inch or even 2 out of the next few hours. Not overly optimistic but hopeful!
