Re: October 2013 Observations/Discussions Thread
Rain to our west but the bulk of it will head to our northwest. You know we have only had about 3 inches of rain since July? We are in a low drought zone now.
Re: October 2013 Observations/Discussions Thread
Just drizzle here. We need rain!

Re: October 2013 Observations/Discussions Thread
Come on Doc, 80's in November around here? Very rare. All time November record in NYC is 84 and that's only happened a couple of times in 144 years of record keeping. Forget the 80's I'd like some highs in the 40's next week. Great September, lousy October so far temperature wise.docstox12 wrote:Ah, but Frank, considering the snowstorm two years ago and Sandy last year in October, I welcome this tranquil mild weather.Statistically, we were due for a mild, dry, calm October after the last two years of mayhemFrank_Wx wrote:This weather stinks. I want averages not 80's
And, you must remember that 80's are possible from October through the first week of November around these parts!

Welcome back CP!
We'll get to the upper 60's today with plenty of sun. The NWS mentioned this morning threat of wild fires since its been so dry, humidity is low, and gusts are around 25 mph

Getting concerned about a drought for our area. Possibly no measurable rain for the next 10 days. Foliage is ugly. Leaves are brown.
Re: October 2013 Observations/Discussions Thread
Don't think it's as bad yet as the Fall drought of 1963.I remember pictures in the Daily News of the Croton Reservoir down to 10%.Robfry, wherever he may be, would probably have all that info in his website.Frank_Wx wrote:Getting concerned about a drought for our area. You're right, Frank, the foliage of some trees are really brown and ugly looking.

Good to see you again.I'll be moving up to your neck of the woods, Monroe NY, next year at this time so I can get out of the northern Bergen County slop storms in winter when you guys get pounded up there!

Suns out. Hit 67 today.
Just your normal boring stretch of weather before we cool down. Below normal departures are exciting right?

Re: October 2013 Observations/Discussions Thread
It's getting noticeably chillier here as well. Some places got into upper 30's last night.
Re: October 2013 Observations/Discussions Thread
I got down to 43* last night and I am at 59* right now! What's the word on the gfs fantasy storm for the end of next week? Also, is there a potential coastal for Wednesday? I heard two pro mets allude to this on tonight's forecast. Heat has officially been turned on, so has the gas fireplace.

Re: October 2013 Observations/Discussions Thread
I do not think it will be an issue. The pattern is amplified but the flow is fast. Trough's will keep moving out but one will quickly follow behind. If anything, it will bring some much needed rain
Re: October 2013 Observations/Discussions Thread
Already down to 44 and its only 8:30. Dew point at 38 and dropping. Should be a cold night with a temp somewhere in the mid-upper 30's

Re: October 2013 Observations/Discussions Thread
Yea it feels nice outside right now. We could be looking at high temps in the upper 40's next weekend
Re: October 2013 Observations/Discussions Thread
Should get some really good radiational cooling tonight. Was not a cloud in the sky today. Down to 47 here.

Re: October 2013 Observations/Discussions Thread
With as Frank said upper 40s as highs, id think everyone will be certainly seeing their first frost and alot of people seeing their first freeze within the next 10 days.

Re: October 2013 Observations/Discussions Thread
Yea I like the first frost/freeze idea end of this week. Winter is almost here!
Re: October 2013 Observations/Discussions Thread
I based this on the cold front moving through Wed evening timeframe and this seems to be the coldest air of the fall from the models n maps but time will tell. A cloudless sky will cause radiational cooling that could propagate the temps cooling. Going to be fun! What do you think?
