Re: Banter Thread 9.0
I’m kind of on the fence of wanting to see this film. The original had great special effects but the actors in the movie other than Helen Hunt were terrible. This movie from what I can tell from the trailer looks like more of the same.Dunnzoo wrote:So who has seen the new Twisters movie? Honestly, I really enjoyed it! A return to a weaker polar vortex is forecasted by this outfit. They say that is happening at the South Pole, too. There is a trippy 3-D representation of the polar vortex up north. It was helpful to be spoonfed (events in the stratosphere don't always make it into the lower troposphere but even if they do, they need upwards of 30 days to show up to us. The data are interesting for their forecasts of the Northeast: above avg temps, above avg precipitation for the rest of Aug, Sep, Oct.
In one of the links there is a years-long pictorial presentation of the sun and sunspots. All this are things we all have read from our board experts but these links really make it clear to me (I was able to think back and finally understand what has been said on the board). Yes, I am dense but it is all starting to penetrate.
It could be a colder winter. I was impressed with 2013-2014 and 2014-2015. I can't forget those winters. If we get back close to one of those when the world is getting warmer, then weather and I truly have not yet come to terms.

Wow, an iconic radio station bites the dust.Back in the early 60's I would listen to this or WINS to get the half hourly weather forecasts, the only thing available until Gloria Okon or Tex Antione ( Uncle Weatherby) came on at night on the night news on TV.When I got my Weathercube NOOA radio, that was the end of all that, lol.
Is WCBS FM still on? I had that station on in my Dental Office for oldies back in the 1990's until 2001 when I retired.

"For example, Wind Chill and Extreme Cold watches and warnings will be consolidated to Extreme Cold watches and warnings.
Also, the Wind Chill Advisory will be renamed to a Cold Weather Advisory.
By making these changes, the NWS said they will be able to communicate that the cold is dangerous, regardless of whether wind is present."

Somebody probably put them on the wrong way, sat on the bed and slipped and broke their arse and sued the sheet maker. Now they have to print warnings how to do it right to cover themselves.Next, a You Tube tutorial to demonstrate the "proper" way to change bed sheets so a 40 year veteran like yourself is "schooled",LOL.
The Law Firms of Dewey,Cheatam and Howe and Shyster and Finagle handled these cases. They were full of "sheet".

This sounds like the same law firm used in the McDonalds case back in the day when the guy sued over hot coffee; burning his mouth because the coffee cup wasn't labeled as "hot coffee". I mean in his defense how was he supposed to know the coffee was hot if the cup wasn't labeled properly? Clearly the NWS is asking the same questions; so hired an entire team to make sure the Public can properly informed about how dangerous the cold really is?
