I gave up on winter outlooks because A) I don’t have the time to apply the necessary research and B) they rarely work out

So now I just hope and pray like the rest of you

This morning I left my house at 4:30 and I I smell something burning and there’s nothing going on around my neighborhood when I got into Manhattan by Houston Street. I still smell the same thing. I don’t think so very dry. I know we are dealing with a drought, is there a wildfire going on?

Also a wildfire in Livingston NJ, west of the city.

All this wildfire drought going on I never remember seeing this for a long, long time. We desperately need rain . The only thing that I am concerned about about how long this weather is going to last meaning dry warm conditions well we have another winter of mild and rainy again or will late December and January. We’ll have a turnaround to a colder and snowy outlook.

It's crazy, some of the coldest places have light snow but freezing cold conditions. That's why I always say that winter should not only look a certain way but feel a certain way as well. If it's not snowing outside cold weather still helps to reinforce the fact that it is indeed winter. I haven't seen anything like this in a while. We haven't had any sort of long sustained cold in years. The norm is warm weather with brief shots of cold, and within those brief shots, you hope for a quick snow event somewhere in there. We've become North Carolina.... maybe south Carolina 😂

The dry weather does not surprise me as we were due for mean reversion after the wet and cool late Spring and Summer. My lawn stayed green all season long and had to use the sprinklers much less. It's early yet, but seeing the mild with short intervals of cold in between.HeeHaws snow map of CA is concerning, last year was the same, less snow.I'll know much better by Dec 15 what pattern sets up in this area.

I'll take a fantasy storm in November. Two winters ago I don't think we even had fantasy storms in the models.

I am driving to Long Island and this is taken from the THROGGS neck bridge. At first, I thought it was clouds, but when I looked at it closer that is smoking haze coming from the wildfire the smell all day yesterday and today from the smoke from the wildfires, unbelievable. I know we are getting some rain tomorrow. I just hope this pardon does break into a storm or rainy, snowy PATTERN

Yeah the wildfires in NJ are crazy, quite a few the ones bringing smoke to NY are the one along Palisades parkway and Pompton lakes. I hear that Pompton 55 homes are at high risk of being destroyed.

Yes there is. I’m interested in seeing if the -NAO blocking holds on long enough. There’s some signs that it breaks down before then, which allows the energy associated for this storm to meander east.

Some weather banter here...

Frank knows that the words Time and Weather are the same word in Italian. Il tempo.

The same word is used to express both concepts. This is common in Romance languages and in fact in many other languages It seems there is a value in knowing the weather now, tomorrow, and in the past. I guess it is like antiques. Some people like the connection to the past but that linear time concept goes into the future where there is anticipation. It is an interesting connection and somewhat difficult to get across to my language learners in my classes.

Ugg the one time I have to travel a snowstorm may be shaping up which normally I would love to see, especially in the holiday season. That has not happened down here in a long time. If it is later on Thurs bring it if it starts early morning I guess I won't be seeing my family. I can drive in the snow but others can't, 95 can get mangled in snowstorms same with Merritt Pkwy. Rooting for it but later on Thanksgiving day would be ideal. Even better on black Friday, don't give a darn about those sales. No sale would get me to wait in those lines. Besides better deals can always be found online.

For those who just want to get the nice tingly feeling of 'what if?', here are the last 3 Canadian runs for next weekend 12/7-12/8. Obviously, not posted to portray what might happen, but maybe to portray what could happen?

Yesterday 12z- not much happening.
Banter Thread 9.0 - Page 17 Gem-310

This morning 00z- starting to show a little something, at least as far as an actual storm goes:
Banter Thread 9.0 - Page 17 Gem-210

Just now 12z- Hey, Hey, Hey! That's starting to look like a little something to watch!
Banter Thread 9.0 - Page 17 Gem-110

Happy Thanksgiving everyone, and hopefully this post ages well! cheers  haha
