Also a wildfire in Livingston NJ, west of the city.

It's crazy, some of the coldest places have light snow but freezing cold conditions. That's why I always say that winter should not only look a certain way but feel a certain way as well. If it's not snowing outside cold weather still helps to reinforce the fact that it is indeed winter. I haven't seen anything like this in a while. We haven't had any sort of long sustained cold in years. The norm is warm weather with brief shots of cold, and within those brief shots, you hope for a quick snow event somewhere in there. We've become North Carolina.... maybe south Carolina

The dry weather does not surprise me as we were due for mean reversion after the wet and cool late Spring and Summer. My lawn stayed green all season long and had to use the sprinklers much less. It's early yet, but seeing the mild with short intervals of cold in between.HeeHaws snow map of CA is concerning, last year was the same, less snow.I'll know much better by Dec 15 what pattern sets up in this area.

I am driving to Long Island and this is taken from the THROGGS neck bridge. At first, I thought it was clouds, but when I looked at it closer that is smoking haze coming from the wildfire the smell all day yesterday and today from the smoke from the wildfires, unbelievable. I know we are getting some rain tomorrow. I just hope this pardon does break into a storm or rainy, snowy PATTERN

Yes there is. I’m interested in seeing if the -NAO blocking holds on long enough. There’s some signs that it breaks down before then, which allows the energy associated for this storm to meander east.

Frank knows that the words Time and Weather are the same word in Italian. Il tempo.
The same word is used to express both concepts. This is common in Romance languages and in fact in many other languages It seems there is a value in knowing the weather now, tomorrow, and in the past. I guess it is like antiques. Some people like the connection to the past but that linear time concept goes into the future where there is anticipation. It is an interesting connection and somewhat difficult to get across to my language learners in my classes.

In Spanish as well. Except it's Tiempo
