Check this out...
This is what the typhoon in the Philippines would look like if it were along the east coast...

Re: November 2013 Observations/Discussions Thread
Their literally might be nothing, and i mean nothing left of the area 25-50 miles N/S of the eye of this thing. Unbelievable. The storm surge must have been over 20 feet in some of the bays of the islands.

Re: November 2013 Observations/Discussions Thread
Now that this coastal storm has a good chance of not happening, we will continue to stay dry until further notice. Uhggg so boring.
Maybe some flurries Tuesday though

Did any of you guys get the peak winds for the Philippines? The Times only said that the winds weren't as high as originally thought but I thought I heard 250mph gusts!??? Bless those poor people.

Low to mid 20s the next few mornings for me. Looks like the trend has been cold and brief warm ups with back to cold temps.

Re: November 2013 Observations/Discussions Thread
There is a chance we see our first snow flakes of the season tomorrow best chance north and west of the city
Re: November 2013 Observations/Discussions Thread
Here is EURO snow map
Very little. I'm not sure the coast, NYC, and LI even see snow. Could fall as rain. Soundings are best for area north and west of the city

Re: November 2013 Observations/Discussions Thread
I'll tell you, I don't care how it falls, we just need some moisture out here. Last storm yielded barely 3/10".

Re: November 2013 Observations/Discussions Thread
Its been bone dry. Crazy. Everything just falls apart before it reaches us.
Re: November 2013 Observations/Discussions Thread
I think it's even worse here. It's literally been since the beginning of August that we have had any substantial rain. There is a pond not far from where I live that I use as a 'metric' for measuring the drought level and it's been dry for 2 months. Haven't seen it like that for this long since the late 90's. It does periodically dry up but usually not this long.

Re: November 2013 Observations/Discussions Thread
nws update says 3z sref and 6z guidance suggest a rain to snow scenario with minor accumulations all locations. up to 2/10ths of an inch liquid possible. it would be nice to see our first flakes of the season!

Re: November 2013 Observations/Discussions Thread
12z guidance today really likes the idea of snow falling between 6am and 11am tomorrow. Soundings suggest there could be some coatings and minor accumulations on non-paved surfaces.
At least we get to see our first flakes

Got a dusting on the Island today, still a little left over on grassy surfaces.

Re: November 2013 Observations/Discussions Thread
It's soooo cold, especially with the wind.
No rain expected through Saturday. Could be some on Sunday, but definitely some rain early next week. Temps only in the 40's tomorrow and Thursday, back in the 50's by weekend.

Re: November 2013 Observations/Discussions Thread
The reason for the milder than normal air is simple. There is still a mild air mass in the southeast U.S. When a storm system cuts (or tracks) to our west, it brings up all the mild air from the south to the north. This is what will happen again early next week (Monday into Tuesday). A storm will cut to our west and raise heights along the coast. Once the storm clears out, much colder air filters in.jbnyy224 wrote:Ugh why am I seeing forecasts with temps getting back into the 60's later this weekend, into next week???? Make it stop!!
We are in a wash-rinse-repeat pattern until the overall jet stream amplifies.
It stinks, but better now than winter
