Heard con Ed was raising prices as well...everyone being hit with high bills..acs have not stopped running all summer..

lol I have no fear..but my poodle loses her mind..Scott suggested a room without windows. this is our bathroom or my walk in closet...so I tried it..my husband thinks I am crazy..but she is better when we are in there..today I had on music and brought a bed in and straightened my drawers while she hid in her bed under her weighted blanket..
Update..almost 2 inches of rain. and it keeps coming and now the crazies who are having a party down the street are setting off fireworks..crap..
936 lightning strikes today..7 miles the closest. more to come I fear

Tomorrow looks very wet and then depends on Debby. But WPC has the area with 7-10 inches of rain in the 5 day total (most coming today and then later in the week), which is very high.dkodgis wrote:90 and stinking humid. No long range so when is the heaviest rain

Re: August 2024 Observations and Discussion
We shall see. It would be typical for many areas that have stayed dry this summer if all the rain comes at once from the remnants of tropical system. Has happened many times around these parts. Hopefully the rain totals aren’t that high because that would almost certainly risk flooding in many areas.

While keeping an eye on the weekend for the remnants of Debby, don’t overlook the frontal passage tomorrow night that may have enhanced moisture from Debby. The storms tomorrow evening could drop heavy amounts of rain in a very short time. So flood threats may start before Debby even arrives.

Re: August 2024 Observations and Discussion
For my area, NWS shows heavy rain Tues, Thurs, Fri, into Sat am. Notice the break on Wednesday-a 30% chance. I intuitively doubt the Wed lull. I will see how my drainage holds up to monster rains and how my bed of stone handles the down slope of water in the back of the house toward the shed. It is a cosmic coincidence. Heavy rains and my preparation. Also, I know it is not a board-worthy piece of info but I have been spreading moss kill around like crazy to kill the carpet of moss out there. It is a real thing this year. Moss like crazy.

Re: August 2024 Observations and Discussion
Yes some of the area is under moderate flash flood threat, some areas could see 3-5+ in training and in the briefing in red say severe flash flooding is very possible. So half of the rain on models may be from this tomorrow night into Wed. All the parkways here flood with much less and the WPC says it could all come in a 3-6 hr period. I am good I will be working from home Wed, just gotta park away from the bridge as it floods on top somehow with a good foot of water, hills on both ends turn it into a pit for the water and the drains into the river get clogged.billg315 wrote:While keeping an eye on the weekend for the remnants of Debby, don’t overlook the frontal passage tomorrow night that may have enhanced moisture from Debby. Tomorrow eve into wed morning is going to be no joke. If Debby comes in after I can't even imagine.

Re: August 2024 Observations and Discussion
Looks like it could be pretty bad, 1-2.5 with locally 3-5+ and marginal risk for severe storms. I guess everyone is busy with work likely, I am on lunch. It all depends where the train of storms forms along the frontal boundary and that won't be known until basically go time. Then it appears Debbie as a TD will go right over us per NHC sometime around Fri/Sat (sorry Janet looks like your and my outdoor plans will be dashed, probably Sunday too.) NHC also has coast in a 10-20% chance of TS force winds but I doubt that unless a outcome like the Icon which has her becoming a hurricane again before going back inland into Carolinas and maintaining TS status well north of there, still a lot of uncertainty with Debby but right now she's barely a TS.weatherwatchermom wrote:so quiet on here..no news about tonight?

Re: August 2024 Observations and Discussion
There is a pup-up training line of flooding rains in LI and the end of LI is under a flash flood warning, not good since this is not even the main rain yet and they are saying up to 3 inches plus total in the warning. I think Scott is getting that rain though it may be just to the east of him.

I do not know how my husband will survive this summer if he does not get out on this boat that he has started calling the paperweight..
Yes, busy day. I have not had time to really watch what is happening..will be out of commission the next few days and of course the hospital I will be at is in an area that floods..up north..I am trying to not take it as a sign...
Its damn hot outside..just finished cutting the lawn..which is so wet and its been 90 the last couple of days. Currently 92* and 65% humidity..stay safe everyone!

Lots of heavy thunderstorms firing up over PA and NJ right now. Radar is lighting up like a Christmas tree. This will continue through the night. At any moment you could find yourself in the path of one of these heavy storms, so keep an eye to the sky. Probably get worse later this evening.

Re: August 2024 Observations and Discussion
it looks like the heaviest of the rain bands are just ever so slightly (for now at least) south of me here in the metuchen area, just south. to my north I have scattered clouds and to my south darker clouds and thunder. Where I am I have some on and off lighter rain

So far only sprinkles in New Hope, and now the sun has come out.
Waiting eagerly for the rain, we need it desperately in this part of the world, having had so little over the past month.

94°F, feels like 104°F, bright sunshine. Our 29th 90°F+ day since June 1. 5 out of 6 days in August! I didn’t think it was supposed to be this hot today? No rain in sight here as of yet.
