What is your elevation there Damian? We got 3 inches here. Doc was eyeballing the 5 to 6 so I'm not sure if that's accurate for him but maybe it is. He is a little higher in elevation than I am. I'm at 600 feet.
Anyway, a nice beginning to the snow season. I'm sure this will all be gone by the weekend, but the promise of a Thanksgiving storm is something to look forward to.
6 inches here measured by me but trained spotter is still asleep so no snow measurements on NWS,LOL.I am 700 feet CP so that could be why there is more here than you and Damian.Don't know his elevation.
32 and still light snow.Slushy mess on the roads.

There you go, talk about elevation dependent. So within 5 miles of where I'm located where I am at 600 feet elevation I got 3 inches, Doc 5 miles away at 700 feet 6 inches and within the same 5 mile radius 8.2 inches at 260 feet higher than me, if I go 5 miles north into Cornwall grass at 200 feet elevation maybe an inch there if that.

CP, my old house in Mahwah 350 feet probably just got a c-1.
Years ago, the Ramapo Mountains near where I lived, probably up over 700 feet once got 9 inches while I got nothing by my old home.Driving back from my office in Ramsey to Mahwah Town, I would see the snow covered mountain tops and just LOL.
33 degrees, steady light to moderate snow all day so far.

Mine goes into the books at 3.2 inches. We average about 2.5 inches for the month of November so it's nice to be above average for the first time in several years.

Plenty of wet snow still falling out there with sun down not too far away. Could surprise some folks in NJ/NY coastal regions with some wet snow or mix this eve. pic.twitter.com/cSlzdyyElx

Still a ways to go for many on our board with wet mangled flakes coming back around and in for even those.

I’m at about 710’ here, and a mile away at 550’ there is nothing at all on the ground.
Currently 34°F, which is where it was when I posted early this morning.

Could it be?! Parts of the Jersey Shore get to wet our beak just a bit? It's like when the family dog gets the left overs after everyone has eaten, or when parents are having company over and the kids are finally allowed to come out of their rooms for the desert that was served. lol When your name finally gets called, all of a sudden, it's all good!!!
This forecast is for Long Branch. The temp is expected to stay in the upper 30's and we are all the way east in northern Monmouth County, so I won't be too surprised if it doesn't materialize...but I'll be watching, that's for sure!

I find it hard to believe that High Point is 1,800 feet in elevation. I looked it up, but I drive that way ALL THE TIME, and coming from the Pennsylvania side you’re looking down at it. Secondly, I-84 crosses that same ridge line and there’s a sign right there that says “Elevation 1,172 feet”. You can clearly see the High Point Monument when on I-84 eastbound, and there’s no way where I-84 crosses that ridge is 700 feet lower than where that monument is. It’s pretty much straight across.
I also have a feeling that measurement is based on the NWS method and not actual depth. If that’s the case, then I can believe it based on what I observed here. Just my $.02.

Well the one thing I am sure about is that High Point is at 1,800 feet. I've been there several times and taken readings with a couple of different altitude apps and it was 1,810 feet give or take a few feet every time.
The 20 inch measurement? Who knows. They haven't had accurate measurements in Central Park for the better part of 150 years so I'm sure they're not the only place.

I underestimated the effect on dBZ for the close off of mid-levels. It really allowed for accs even at the lower elevations for our NW folks plus being night helped. Thought c-2" < 1000' feet with this.
Rb excellent job with this storm!

Re: First Snow of the Season?!
I live about 25 minutes from High point monument, took a ride up there this morning, at the parking lot which is at 1650 feet altitude they have every bit of 20 inches, it was 35 degrees there at 9:00 am this morning. Probably 100 people snow shoeing and cross country skiing. My buddy works for the park and told me Friday they got a lot of snow. I didn’t walk up to the tower but the tower is about 200 feet higher than the parking lot so I would not be surprised if there is 24 inches up at the monument. 10 minutes away from the park and there is only 6 inches, it was a elevation storm like I’ve never seen. I was actually a LITTLE skeptical about there totals, I can confirm, they actually may be a little Low because I picked up another 4 yesterday and evening,
Good Luck !
