Re: First Snow of the Season?!
Well finished up at about 10 inches, very hard to keep track, didn’t stop snowing till midnight last night!
I live about 25 minutes from High point monument, took a ride up there this morning, at the parking lot which is at 1650 feet altitude they have every bit of 20 inches, it was 35 degrees there at 9:00 am this morning. Probably 100 people snow shoeing and cross country skiing. My buddy works for the park and told me Friday they got a lot of snow. I didn’t walk up to the tower but the tower is about 200 feet higher than the parking lot so I would not be surprised if there is 24 inches up at the monument. 10 minutes away from the park and there is only 6 inches, it was a elevation storm like I’ve never seen. I was actually a LITTLE skeptical about there totals, I can confirm, they actually may be a little Low because I picked up another 4 yesterday and evening,
Good Luck !

Re: First Snow of the Season?!
First and foremost, I think my post about High Point's elevation was misunderstood haha I did, in fact, look up the elevation across various sources and self-confirmed that the ~1,800 feet is accurate, which I mentioned last night. My incredulousness was because I never knew the exact elevation, but the following observations led me to believe for a LONG time that it wasn't that high:
"I drive that way ALL THE TIME, and coming from the Pennsylvania side you’re looking down at it. Secondly, I-84 crosses that same ridge line and there’s a sign right there that says “Elevation 1,172 feet”. You can clearly see the High Point Monument when on I-84 eastbound, and there’s no way where I-84 crosses that ridge is 700 feet lower than where that monument is. It’s pretty much straight across."
Apparently, my frame of reference was never quite right.
Secondly, I do believe that the reported measurement of 20" is also accurate after doing some further investigation of observations from areas around me at similar elevations.
Now, as a wrap-up to this event, I think pretty much everything turned out as I expected it to. Granted, my preliminary max amount of 15" was a bit low based on the actual observations, but I certainly think it's fair to say that the main ideas regarding the overall evolution and how the modeling would adjust as the lead time decreased were proven accurate. I wish that I had more time to be able to actually make a snowfall forecast map, but I honestly didn't have the time. Overall, though, I'm very pleased with how this event turned out with respect to my thoughts and discussion, and I certainly appreciate the acknowledgements and all of the kind words from everybody. As always, I just try to provide the best and most accurate information that I can, and this time, I was lucky enough to be on the right track haha
Here are a few more pictures from Friday:
For reference, there’s a mountain the background of the above picture on a clear day lol

Re: First Snow of the Season?!
talt ,great pictures of High Point Monument.Haven't been there in 20 years. When I was there in 1966 before that, you could walk up stairs to the top of the monument but I think I read that is closed. My frat Buddy had a small house on Lake Wallenpaupack so many a time on 84 East I would see the monument on top of the mountain. Also saw it from my late Uncle's farm walking on Goodridge Road in Westtown NJ.
The storm was a classic example of how elevation can effect the amount of snow an area gets.I am at 700 feet getting 6.5 inches total and some areas of Monroe some 150 feet higher got 8 inches plus.
rb great job on this one and following you ,heehaw and doc on the next possible one Thanksgiving Day.

Doc, I was up at the High Point monument last year, late December with my 9 yr old son. If I recall correctly, we were not able to climb up to the top only because it was closed for the season, but during the warmer months I think we can still climb on up. We also went to the 'Tri-States Monument' which is literally underneath I-84 at the state lines of PA/NJ/NY, on the banks of Delaware River. That was also pretty cool.
45* with a stiff westerly wind at Long Branch, NJ, exit 105 GSP. Happy Sunday all!

Hey, SENJ, that is a cool Monument! Many years I fished the Delaware further south near Marshall's Creek.Beautiful country there!Glad to hear you can still get up to the top of the tower. When I was up there in 1966, I remember the view being spectacular.Always think of High Point as a mini Washington Monument in DC.
Hope you guys in the NJ Shore and LI crew cash in soon for snow.Have a great Thanksgiving!
