Back in the day, Bernie Rayno would start off his winter storm videos by asking:

18* in Long Branch, exit 105 of the GSP, almost at the forecast overnight low of 16*. Not going to approach single digits tonight, but DANG it's cold out there. High tomorrow in the upper 20's...that's cold too!

TWC app now showing my area has a chance for snow showers on Tuesday. I'd consider that a Christmas miracle if it happened...but 'Tis the Season. Happy holidays everyone!

Numerous sub zero readings now in HV. Only question now is will someone hit -10 here by sunrise.

Yep. I think we will have some chances but it's mostly n/s driven. Those systems will most likely redevelop to tap the Atlantic for enhancement. That's where we need the Atlantic blocking for something larger scale. But first ingredient is the cold!

10* calm

It hit a low of 11 this morning here in my backyard.  So I have been working on this post almost as hard as I have been working on my snow gun, enjoy and hope it gives lots of laughs as I am sure some of this is not quite correct!  Temps here sat in the low 20s all day Sunday so it was time to give the snow gun a full test as sampling data from all these nighttime drone flights was incorporated in my 12Z SKD model run and showed near perfect conditions for snowmaking.  I had a nice baroclinic area of banding set up for 20 minutes and had a line of frontogenesis as the 100 mb heights cut off and went negative tilt.  There was a major cut off from subsidence to the west.  The wet bulb was at 14 degrees so I had some decent snowflake formation. The mid level (8’ above the ground) double barrel pressure jets were cranking out at 1.2 gallons per minute which gave a snowfall rate of about 1 inch per hour but I seemed to be missing the Atlantic blocking so there was a stiff west breeze that made blizzard like conditions at times and spread out all the snow across the yard and even into the neighbors driveway so I had to reposition the gun a bit further back and account for the wind.  This set up is not really made to run for a long time as it includes constantly running an air compressor and pressure washer and in my very first attempt I blew a fuse as I plugged then both in on the same circuit! This morning would have been a good opportunity to use it again as there was no wind but I had to go to work.  Overall this has been a success and will cure the depression of having bitter cold with no (natural) snow and maybe even bring me a white Christmas in my backyard!

Im really hoping to squeeze out a c-0.5" tomorrow but it just doesn't feel right for eastern half of Suffolk County. Christmas miracle is still in play however.

Happy days for sure CP!Good things for this winter if this pattern continues.We are overdue for a 50 inch year by us.
Up to a balmy 14 degrees, maybe I will sit on my snow covered deck! Sunny and slight breeze.

This is NAM 3k for tomorrow morning. Precip comes through like a front and i think as it pushes S/E it loses its punch a bit. Won't be surprised to see Poconos pick up 2" though...

It's been since 2009 that much of the area saw its last white XMas
