7.2 here and windy. Just in case the cold wasn't bad enough they had to throw in the wind

5.2*, had a few wind chill readings about -10*. Thankfully the wind gusts don't seem to be coming that often....

0.3. Temperature not impressive here but the wind chill is. 5 degrees in CPK is impressive. Almost 20 years since the last record low shows that winter cold ain't what it use to be.

Holy Moly it's frigid cold and windy out there. Batten down the hatches, everything is blowing around. Hope Long Island and other power lines hold up in this wind. Can't imagine anyone on this board would have any pets outside, but still have to say it, bring pets in. Not fit for man nor beast out there...
I opened up the cabinet doors under my sinks at home to allow heat to circulate around pipes. If you're driving, bring along a blanket just in case and wear your warmest coat, hat, gloves, layers and layers. Not warming up much today and going down a little colder tonight with winds expected to gust through this evening.

Re: Severe Arctic Blast / Flash Freeze 1/6-1/7
Looks like CPK hit 4 above, the lowest there since January 2004 when it hit 1 on two separate days, 2 on another all a week apart. Now that was a cold spell, people in the news media have very short weather memories.
It takes the high winds to offset the heat island effect of the city, tomorrow morning will be colder for suburbs, lower if we had a snow cover, but city won't approach 4 tomorrow morning.

0.9 after a low of 0.2.
I'll be expecting sub zero tonight,in many suburbs. Similar to what we had last Saturday

Still only 8 degrees in midtown. But the high for the day will be listed as the temp at midnight right? So 29 i think. That stinks!

To bad about the midnight temps. NYC might not have made it out of single digits today. I can't remember the last time that happened. I don't think it did in 2004 not even sure about 1994. I'll have to check the records tonight.

Re: Severe Arctic Blast / Flash Freeze 1/6-1/7
I think there was a week in the '93-'94 winter where temps were constantly below 15 degrees. They ran out of road salt and even if they had it, it wouldn't work.I think I remember them using sand.
8 degrees here in Mahwah now.Yes, it has been a long time with cold like this.40 degrees will feel like Jersey Shore weather after this,LOL!

Re: Severe Arctic Blast / Flash Freeze 1/6-1/7
I know there were several days here during 93-94 that it never made it above 5 here , Orange County, I wasn't sure if NYC had any. During the Jan 2004 stretch when NYC had lows of 1, 1 and 2 during a one week span there may have been a day there. The 2004 records I have at home and will check tonight.

Re: Severe Arctic Blast / Flash Freeze 1/6-1/7
I can't remember any time with a high in the single digits. I barely remember many highs below 20. Even if the day is that cold usually at some point it was milder, like today's midnight temp. Overall today is the coldest day I remember in NYC. In 94 I dont think it was so windy, and temps rebounded a little more from that below zero low.
