Re: Severe Arctic Blast / Flash Freeze 1/6-1/7
Upton's AFD mentions the possibility of issuing a Winter Winter Advisory if the flash freeze potential becomes widespread enough... Well Hello Upton???
Short term /6 PM this evening through 6 PM Tuesday/...
surge of Arctic air will arrive this evening as a strong middle level
shortwave passes through...and could be accompanied by a brief
snow shower mainly well inland. When this surge arrives...temperatures
will plummet into the single digits by morning and near 0 in the
higher elevations well north/west of NYC...with west winds gusting as
high as 45-50 miles per hour in NYC metropolitan and Long Island...possibly in the
interior higher elevations...and 40-45 miles per hour elsewhere. Temperatures will
struggle to rise above 10 above in NYC metropolitan and coastal
sections...and should remain in the single digits inland. This in
combination with west winds 25-35 miles per hour will produce dangerous wind
chills of 15-20 below north/west of NYC...and as low as 15 below
in NYC...western Long Island and southwest CT. Wind Chill Advisory has
been issued.
There is the potential for a flash freeze tonight as any standing
water from rain and melting snow refreezes...and the situation may
be handled via a Winter Weather Advisory if the threat looks to be
widespread.

Many schools are considering delaying or canceling classes tomorrow. Hoping that happens for me!

Haha, funny Frank.
I didn't post any measurements from the storm because it was ridiculously windy and also, I still can't really navigate this site on my IPAD. By the time I got around to reading this site it was already melted this morning. Anyway, the page opens but I can't see any thumbnails, it's a weird kind of "mode". I tried to play around with the settings but to no avail. Any suggestions?

It sounds like you're in mobile version. Go to the site on your Ipad and in the top right there should be an arrow. Click on it and then you should see an option to switch to "classic version" which is the desktop version of the site.

Yeah, tried that and nothing to click on, but I think I just used the hyperlink. I'll actually type in the site next time and see if that works. Thanks man.

Do you know how to take a screen shot (press the menu and power button at the same time).
Can you take one of the home page and private message it to me?

Yeah, I'll try that when I'm back on it. But I'll try to type the website in a fresh browser rather than use the hyperlink, see if that works first.

I know schools in Northern Westchester and by me over here in Northern Bergen County and Western Passaic as well as Sussex are discussing a delayed opening but not cancelling. Keeping my fingers crossed as well.
Down to 33* from this mornings high of 52*.

Re: Severe Arctic Blast / Flash Freeze 1/6-1/7
Monroe twp. called a delayed opening for Tuesday. Superintendent stated that it was because of fear that black ice would be difficult to see in the dark for students and staff who travel before daybreak. I was surprised that the reason was not the extreme wind chill.

I dropped 3 degrees in less than an hour and it's much more windy with snow showers. It's coming.
