Post by NjWeatherGuy Thu Mar 13, 2014 2:18 pm

Well I used to have lots of fun with these threads in the old board so I figured why not post one here. If you want, spend a little time on MS paint or whatever program you use and create a map (or maps) of your all time wildest dream storm. Mine is a winter storm but it doesn't have to be, whatever you want! I will not criticize your mapmaking skills so just let loose, if you have extreme hard time making any map you can write up a textual depiction. Anyways, here is mine.

This storm forms on January 5th, 2015. As a potent piece of energy entering northern California and a drenching rainstorm for the west. The energy slides to the south and stalls around the Texas GOM area. The storm gathers moisture and begins to form as unseasonably warm temperatures in the Gulf allow for rapid storm development. Meanwhile a strong HP slides south out of central Canada and begins to position itself in the Great Plains. The jets begin to phase and completely phase as the storm is over Florida and turns from SW to NE to nearly due north rapidly deepening as more Gulf and Atlantic moisture is pulled in. The central pressure of the storm nears 980 mb as the storm is near coastal Georgia moving north, meanwhile strong moisture ahead of the storm begins to spread into New Jersey and snow is falling from western Georgia to NYC at this time. The storm rapidly deepens and precip shield expands as it moves NNE. The storm makes landfall just west of Cape Hatteras with a central pressure of 960 millibars. Winds increase from South Carolina to the SNE coast from 25-50 mph to 45-60mph sustained winds with gusts up to 85 due to the pressure gradient. The storm continues NNE and deepens to a max pressure of 956mb off the coast of LI. Wind gauges on the coast of LI and the Jersey shore record gusts up to 96 miles per hour from the northeast, the most intense ever from a winter storm. Temperature readings around the I-95 corridor from DC to Boston are around 15 degrees Fahrenheit with wind chills exceeding -20 degrees F. The storm weakens to a lower 970mb storm and precipitation lightens slightly as it moves up into the Canadian maritimes. Northern Florida received a record snowfall of 6". A swath of 6-12" encompassed much of Georgia and NNE-ward into Maine and SE Canada. 12-18" amounts from South Carolina to Maine. 18-24" amounts from Virginia to southern New Hampshire, and 24-36"+ amounts from northern VA (DC area) through the I-95 corridor (including SEPA and parts of the HV) into Boston. Philadelphia received 44" making it the biggest snowstorm of all time, NYC reached 42" and Boston received 39" of snow. The storm was the largest and most destructive blizzard in history, the snow weenies were satisfied with 10" and lower amounts after cleaning up from this storm.

Wow I didn't notice it when I was making it but this is essentially '93 but like 100 miles further east, I need to come up with something more original next time.

Tom, that is exactly what I thought reading your amazing conceptual storm.Proof of that was Hawley PA in NEPA got over 36 inches in '93.That '93 storm was just a little too close to the coast.

It actually basically passed right over I-95 and right through NYC.

Most of my precip was sleet, around 15" here, shows power of that storm when it never went over to liquid and sfc temps well below freezing even though the SLP was like 15 miles to my east.

Classic Ace simply classic.

Once again the CNJ coast and LI = jackpot with this storm.

Oh and 40" would be washed away by the ocean since you would have a 6' surge minimum Ace!!

Hard to believe I could get 29 inches on that map and be annoyed but if it happened I know that would be the case.  Good map except as a CPK expert I believe the measurement would go one step further to  be even something more irritating like 11.9. Just to make sure it could not join their list of one foot storms.

I also love that Washington Baltimore Philly and Boston get scrooed I do feel bad for srroc and tom though. Just like toms storm had similarities to 93 only 100 miles east. This has a lot of February 26 2010 when NYC had 21 inches I got 35 and Boston had all rain. WDC and Baltimore also no snow from that one.

The funny thing is that with that track I would get blasted, only got screwed from 12/26 because it tracked way offshore.

Its my storm, and i say you get a trace. lol. The storm has a very small but insanely powerful precip shield.

Tom, I'm sure Hillsborough must be a big place because when I looked at NOAA Mount Holly's snow totals from 12/26/10, they have Hillsborough, NJ (Somerset County) at 16.5"

This map seems most accurate so far. East end of town is in the 15-18 and west end of town (by me) was in 6-9, honestly not that big of a town just a massive cutoff. That is why I hate this storm. Why can't we just get a PDII that blankets the entire area in 2 feet + of snow. Not just these crappy small precip shields.
