36 people coming over my place today. The Dubatos, Falcones, and Marollas. 1st 2nd and 3rd cousins. We call it "THE Cousins Christmas". And this is just on my dad's side. It's a holiday family tradition that has been going on for over 35yrs.

Yesterday after work was spent cooking the gravy, meatballs, and the soup(pumpkin). Today is putting together the stuffed mushrooms, fresh mozzarella with Tom and Basil, prosciutto and Mellon with raspberry drizzle, baked ziti, ham, and stuffed flounder scampi. Others will bring salad, additional apps and sides, desserts, and plenty of vino. La sua intenzione di essere una festa per l'età.

I am feeling very festive this morning. Happy Holidays everyone!!
santa santa

Paisan, you are making me VERY hungry describing the magnificent spread you are presenting.Hope the day is going to be a great one for you and La Familia.Sounds like a blast!

When everybody is at the table properly inebriated, I suggest you get up and announce..."I'd like to thank the heads of the five families for organizing this meeting.....from the Bronx, Carmine Corleone, from Brooklyn, Phillip Tataglia....."

sroc4 Sounds awesome. Is anybody on this board not italian. I'm first generation first to graduate college and was 2 weeks from going to the Culinary Institute back when I graduated HS. My family on both sides are all in the restaurant business. My kids are sleeping over nonno and nonnas house tonight and making Christmas cookies. They keep asking if its gonna snow.

Enjoy your day. I might just make the 30 minute drive out!!

God bless Frank. I just read his post in the long range thread about the PV possibly not splitting and mid-January being warm. Like I've said before (with no science mumbo jumbo to back it up) a pattern is a pattern. With all the hype about this winter to come (which just starts today) the pattern has been occasional cold days with no precip. and warm days with rain. The storms have been a plenty but all warm. THIS IS OUR WINTER PATTERN.

We'll get some snow (not a lot) this winter but I have a really bad gut feeling. Been paying close attention to the weather for way too many years to not get a feel. Cold and dry periods wet and warm dominates. Hope I'm wrong.

Yea, no one check the LR thread this morning. Bad developments overnight. I'm going to have to seriously look over things one day and see what the heck is going on. I may have to do research on some of my analog years and see how their winter's behaved. Anyone wanna check 1977-1978 for me?

CP would know exact stats, but off the top of my head, it was the snowiest year of the 70's.A major snowstorm in January was followed a few days later by a snow to slop to rainstorm. Then in February, another major snowstorm.Great winter.

There was always the chance of a reversion to the mean this year after the 60 or so inches we got around here last year.Way above normal. That happened in 2011-2012 after the 2010-2011 killer snow winter. Just sayin'.......

Frank, 77/78 started out very slow snow wise, at least in NYC.

There was 0.2 inches in November, sound familiar it's exactly what CPK recorded this past November? 0.4 inches in December, this year CPK is at 1.0 in December, again on the money.

Then January through March it was all great.

20.3 inches in January, 23.0 inches in February and 6.8 inches in March, throw in a trace in April and it was a nice 3 month showing after a horrible start. The December prognosticator certainly failed that year, hopefully again this year.

For December through February the average temperature was 30.3 in NYC. Now compare that to last year when everyone was complaining how cold it was which averaged out to 32.9 and you can see it was even much colder than last year, though milder than the winter before. In 76/77 December through February averaged 28.5 in NYC a full 4.4 degrees colder than last year.

I do remember the snow that year never seemed to melt. It was with us from the beginning of January through to the end of March. Despite the cold, there was no extreme outbreaks of cold like the 2 years before which both saw sub zero readings in NYC. The lowest temp recorded was 10 in 77/78 well above the -1 in the winter of 75/76 and the -2 in the winter of 76/77.

There were 2 storms over one foot that season in NYC. There was of course other snowfalls but I don't have specific records of them

There was the January 19-20 storm which was recorded at 13.6 inches in NYC.

The most Memorable storm from that season was of course the great blizzard of Feb. 5-6 which was officially recorded at 17.7 inches in central Park, trust me it was at least 2 feet. This was one of the Zookeepers greatest under counts and as a 17 year old first alerted me to his or her incompetence.

After that storm the snowpack was quite extreme and the prolonged cold kept it in place as stated earlier to the end of March in NYC and into April in the HV.

Yea, I like 77-78 because of the slow start to December. It also featured a weak El Nino. I'm going to have to check up on how the Stratosphere behaved that winter. Thanks CP! This could make sense

I wish this winter turns out like 77 78. The blizzard of 78 is my first snowstorm memory. I was 5 and I remember my dad throwing me over the bushes into the snow over and over. It was at least 2 feet. I lived in Queens county then. Let's hope.

Frank a week ago I asked you to lie about the weather. Now I'm asking for the short and sweet truth. Do you see any snow chances here in the next 2 weeks and has your optimism about the winter as a whole changed?? Mine has BIG TIME!!

I expected December to be bad, but I was hoping there would be better signs for January by the end of this month. I could be rushing it, however. Maybe it's still too early. And yes, I continue to look like the 28th-6th time period. Definitely for colder weather.
