I'd rather have these situations that start off low end and increase as the storm progresses.

I wouldn't write it off yet RJB, things have a bit of time to change but yeah VT and yet again boston jackpot on this. On another note Frank & Ace, pretty much what you said but this is the response I got from Wxbell team on the snow maps.

Hi Jon,

Thanks for your email. For the GFS, CMC and Not A Model, the snow output is just snow. These models differentiate between different types of frozen precipitation. For the ECMWF, however, the snow output is currently any frozen precipitation. Future upgrades from ECMWF are expected to include differentiation between the types of frozen precip (but not likely this winter).

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Let the 10 day west trend begin then a east trend lol. GFS is way less snow, but both verbatim have extremely intense winds on the back side, sub 980 and sub 970 wow. I pray now.

RJB I will of course take another 8-10 storm but I would rather 2-3 feet if it was between me and boston,m if they got that thats gotta be some kind of major record for them, and many areas, I mean has anyone actually cared to keep tabs on how much they have gotten to date?

I know Boston is supposed to get more than us, but this is a little extreme. F them. I shouldn't even be complaining cause I'm already at 38" but holy crap this sharp cutoff sucks.

Let's put a little perspective on the Boston thing because I see a lot being posted about it here. First of all I hate the bastards but that's because of a Yankees, Knicks, Ranger thing not because of snowfall envy. Actually most places in the Hudson Valley from Orange County and Putnam County on North average more snow per season than the city of Boston does, as does far northwest New Jersey and parts of Northeast Pennsylvania.

The city of Boston averages 42 inches of snowfall in a season, New York City averages 26 inches per season that's going by the 30 year average for both cities. Last season Boston had 58.9 inches of snow and New York City saw 57.4 inches of snow, a negligible difference. Also put into perspective that the guy that measures in New York City doesn't count 10 to 20% of the snow that falls.

Boston has had 54 inches of snow so far this season, many in our area have had 35 to 45 inches of snow already this season, the difference isn't as big as you think.

The big difference of course is Boston has had 85% of that in the last two weeks. What's been going on in Boston is very rare for them, and really very rare for anyone. They have been in the bull's-eye the last two weeks and making us all jealous, but it's not the norm as a matter of fact it's unprecedented in their history.

In 125 years of record-keeping the city of Boston has had 60 or more inches of snow in a full season only 10 times. They may do that do now in a two-week period. For those of you in a rush to move up there it probably won't happen again for another 125 years and you'll be dead before ever seeing it again. Plus you'll have to listen to those annoying accents. Stay put it's not worth the move.

Great write up CP, good logic there.

Yes, 60 inches in two weeks is definitely an anomaly.

That Feb 2010 bizarro snowstorm that gave the HV 36 inches and Boston rain should be mentioned as well.

Yeah, annoying accents. Sold a few old car parts to a guy in Boston on CL and when we talked I thought his name was Mack.I was calling him that. When I filled out the UPS shipment slip, I found out his name was MARK. WTF?? LOL!
