They got it right this time, and is in line with 3.2" at LGA, 3.5" at JFK and 3.2" at Newark. Also 3.1" for myself.
CPK is at 24.4" for the season, probably should be in the low 30s," like LGA (32.3"). Ive measured similar # for myself as well.

A deviation that big is utterly ridiculous. This year is one of their worst but it happens year, after year, after year.

CPK measured the lowest in its surrounding area once again at 3.0 inches. At least it's not as bad as the other storms.

Joe, the final tally was 4.0 inches as of the 7 am update. That seems right in line with surrounding areas.
It's also unheard of that they recognized an additional inch after midnight when freezing rain changed back to moderate snow for a couple of hours in Manhattan after 4 am.

"We're going to go through that Zookeeper like crap through a Goose!"
By God, I feel sorry for that SOB, I really do.
We on this site are going to bombard NOAA with e mails every storm if necessary to correct this matter once and for all.

LOL!
At least NOAA knows there are weather enthusiasts out there who are watching.I'll bet that 28 inches they have posted might have been even lower if people here did not send all those e mails.
Aniother snow season is winding down but we will be back next snow season to watch and report!!!

So LGA has recorded 36.5 inches of snow so far this season and has a current snow depth of 6 inches
Central Park has recorded by the infamous zookeeper, 28.4 inches of snow and has a current snow depth of 12 inches.
Does anyone at NOAA or the State Climate Office see anything wrong there?
Common sense does not rule, robotic recording of incorrect measurements is the rule of the day.
At least they got the last two correct, but even though they promised, no other under counts this year have been corrected.

4.5 inches as of 7:00 pm. It did snow a bit after that so I'd like to see them come in tomorrow morning with a final of 5 or so.

So with all of the let downs and possible under-counts, CPK is at 33.2" on the season and tied with 1935-36 as the 48th snowiest season on record.

mike this is simply incredible. and cpk really has closer to 40" as our friend in the park did his usual on a few storms. when reading through the winter outlooks by various mets and amatuers most thought we would have a back loaded winter due to el-nino even though this is not like a usual el-nino winter. so many winter forecast ended up pretty accurate. let's see if cpk can make it to 40" this year. we have a good shot at it.Math23x7 wrote:Of the 33.2" of snow CPK has this season, 30" of it came since January 24th.

The biggest story here is the 4.8 inch total recorded at the zoo. That's 3 in a row now they've gotten it right. I'm sure the email campaign made a difference the problem of course is two fold in that they still haven't updated the incorrect measurements from this year and as you said Al if they did the park would be about 40 inches.
Of course the other problem is without due diligence they will begin making the same mistakes again if someone at NOAA doesn't stay on top of the zoo. For that to happen someone has to stay on top of NOAA and that's why we're all here.

Exactly, CP.We may have won a few battles, but, as you said, the war goes on.

CPK measured 1.8" today. I actually agree with that amount. It puts it at 35.0" for the season tied with 2000-01 for the 42nd snowiest season on record.

Good to hear Math, that's 4 in a row they've gotten correct.
We should all pat ourselves on the back. I only wish they would correct the 3 they blew in January and the beginning of February. They would be at about 42 inches now if they did.
I'm sending one more e-mail tomorrow to remind them. They love hearing from me.

CPK 7.0 inches as of 4PM.
It been snowing moderately from 4:00 until now so let's see if they pick up on the last 0.5 to 1.5 that will fall before this ends. If they do this will be five in a row.

And the 8:00 pm update still has Central Park sitting at their 4:00 pm reading of 7.0 inches. LaGuardia is up to 8.4 as of 8 pm. So what happened to the snow that fell after 4:00? If it's not included in the next update it will never be found, AGAIN.

And the final tally comes in at 7.5 inches in the park.
It's close enough but probably a half inch to an inch light, but I'll give them this one which now makes 5 in a row.
At least they're trying, for now. Although the under counts from January and February have still not been corrected and at this point probably won't be.
42.5 inches for the season in CPK.
49.1 inches for the season at LGA which is about what CPK has actually had this year give or take an inch.

Nice job Abba.
If I should ever be captured or killed by NOAA I would like you to carry the torch for me in my lifelong pursuit of accurate snowfall measurements in CPK.
