5th anniversary of the February 25th-26th, 2010 snowstorm
Five years ago today: 2/25/10 (Thursday). I was living at Manhattan College (MC) as a sophomore at the time and for over seven hours, MC had some steady snow while Bellerose had heavy rain. The rain/snow line was further east than anticipated at this point in the day. If I'm not mistaken, it was originally forecasted to be just west of Newark. MC ended up cancelling all classes after 3 PM that day. While it says 33 degrees, it was still coming down and when it got below freezing that evening, the snow kept coming down at a heavy rate so all classes were cancelled the next day as well. Central Park in NYC ended up getting a lot more snow than originally forecasted: 20.9"!!! It put them at 36.9" of snow for the month, the snowiest Feburary AND month on record and at 51.4" on the season. And to think from this same storm, Boston had mostly rain and only 0.1" of snow. (They had 35.7" that season, 15.7" LESS than NYC, the greatest deviation of all seasons with NYC getting more snow). Also, this storm in a way made up for the near-miss that was February 5th-6th, 2010 although had the storm came farther north to give CPK at least 24.3" of snow AND had all the other snowstorms played out, it would have broken the seasonal snow record of 75.6" in 1995-96.
I took this from a YouTube clip featuring Lonnie Quinn from channel 2. I labeled MC and Bellerose as shown. Here is the link

Also, here is an image that a lot of you (especially James (syosnow94) and CP) would LOVE. After Long Island changed over to snow that evening, much of New England is under heavy rain while the NYC region is under heavy snow:

I wasn't there during the storm, but my brother (who was 12 at the time) told me that is was rain there for much of the day and that it changed to snow from 3-4 PM and then it came down heavy, just like it did all day at MC where I was. There was no report from Bellerose but nearby Floral Park got 14.5" from the storm.
This should help: http://www.erh.noaa.gov/er/okx/StormEvents/storm02262010.html
