ROCKLAND-NORTHERN WESTCHESTER-SOUTHERN WESTCHESTER-
101 PM EDT SUN MAY 31 2015

...FLASH FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN UPTON HAS ISSUED A

* FLASH FLOOD WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT...
NORTHEAST NEW JERSEY AND SOUTHEAST NEW YORK...INCLUDING THE
FOLLOWING AREAS...IN SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT...NORTHERN FAIRFIELD
AND SOUTHERN FAIRFIELD. IN NORTHEAST NEW JERSEY...EASTERN
BERGEN...EASTERN PASSAIC...WESTERN BERGEN AND WESTERN PASSAIC.
IN SOUTHEAST NEW YORK...NORTHERN WESTCHESTER...ORANGE...
PUTNAM...ROCKLAND AND SOUTHERN WESTCHESTER.

* UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING.

* SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WITH HEAVY RAIN HAD DEVELOPED EARLY
THIS AFTERNOON ACROSS NORTHEAST PENNSYLVANIA. THIS ACTIVITY WILL
MOVE NORTHEAST TOWARD THE INTERIOR LOWER HUDSON VALLEY EARLY
THIS AFTERNOON...THEN EXPAND INTO AREAS JUST NORTHWEST OF NEW
YORK CITY AND INTERIOR NORTHEAST NEW JERSEY AND INTO SOUTHWEST
CONNECTICUT LATER THIS AFTERNOON AS A COLD FRONT SINKS INTO THE
AREA.

* HEAVY RAIN WITH RAINFALL RATES OF 1 TO 2 INCHES PER HOUR COULD
CAUSE FLASH FLOODING...ESPECIALLY IN URBAN AND POOR DRAINAGE
AREAS...AND IN LOCATIONS THAT RECEIVED HEAVY RAIN FROM
THUNDERSTORMS EARLIER THIS WEEK. REPEATED TRAINING OF CELLS OVER
THE SAME AREAS COULD LEAD TO LOCALIZED RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 2 TO
4 INCHES.

Seems like the atmosphere is destabilizing pretty well cape is up, but low shear. Any storms will probably be hail or gusty winds if anything. Heavy rain looks to be our biggest threat or blessing however you see it. Thing with rain thats too heavy is it just runs off and doesnt do much good.

Jeeze huge cell blew up literally JUST north of here can't be even 5 miles, dark sky to the north of me sun into NYC.

LOL Ace, with their new parameters I guess flooding couldprompt a hurricane warning lol, btw anyone see the sill cmc today, big hurricane next week along east coast (I know this goes in other section but just thought id mention the usual cmc BS).

Seriously Frank, and that cluster literally skirted just north of me, if I went for a 10 min drive up the road i'd be under the thick of it. More developing to the south near city.

There's a lot of energy off to the west. It's going to take until late tomorrow before it all moves out. While I still think 1-2 inches of rain will be the mean precip to fall, those stuck under training t-storms could receive up to 4 inches of rain. Hopefully your area is the lucky zone....

WOW what a lightning show been seeing cloud to ground strikes out window sometimes 2-3 at same time in a row across sky. Still holding out on rain.

Get set for the chill everybody. Before the rain started it was a muggy 74 here two hours ago. Now it's 57 we turned off the air closed all the windows and put on the sweats and sweatshirts. Love it.
