LMAO at the "Worst Spring Ever" scroll.
Saturday looks like an interesting day/evening. I kind of want warmth and sunshine at this point, but a small snow event might be ok as a curiosity. What I DO NOT want any more of are these outrageous gusty wind events of the past week and a half.

The latest HRRR has 850 mb temperatures surrounding NYC at around -6 Celsius when the precipitation rolls in. This seems great for snow...until you see that since it's April 9th, we have a high sun angle and surface temperatures in the mid to upper 40s.
Regarding the first sentence: Where the heck was this setup in March? February?? December??????? Ugh! So aggravating!

Good piece. Not sure if I've ever seen this before. A great piece to show you how the engineers dealt with the ocean breach after Sandy.

I thought I would post this link:

to a picture of Niagra Falls, frozen, in the winter of 1911. I guess it was cold that year!

I mentioned this in the Sports section but I'm not sure which was more annoying today, that the NY Mets lost to a team in the greater Philly region or that NY missed out on snow to the greater Philly region

Philadelphia had 0.2 inches of snow today, that's no loss.
The Mets will win a minimum of 90 games this season and the Phillies will be lucky to only lose 90, who would you rather be?

Both hurt. This winter was painful (except for one awesome storm) and a few wet flurries yesterday. Whenever a Philly team wins, it stings, even if its with .2 inches. The Fumble, Randall Cunningham 90 yard punt, Mike Schmidt, Lenny Dykstra post Mets. The list goes on.

Yes, the obligatory April snow shower and flurry. We at least had around 3 inches last week so April was actually a good month for our miserable HV winter where the big blizzard went S and E of us, something entirely new and different (sarcasm),LOL!

Yesterday's storm was truly a crazy surface depiction - heavy snow in Cape May to AC and in Toms River on North rain. If it were Jan through March they woudl have seen double if not triple the amount of snowfall stick.
Also, the LP moved from a west to sw/e orientation instead of SW to NE as was being modelled.
The only model I trust and can depend on is my WIFE!!!!! (Really she was a model back in her early twenties!)

I'd rather see a video of Philadelphia where it snowed for six continuous hours moderately to sometimes heavy and they got 0.3 inches of snow. At least then I'd feel like I didn't miss out on much.

Was wondering if anyone on the board has had the opportunity to go storm chasing?? Looking to go in 2017 and want to narrow the field of tour group choices.

It's on my bucket list, maybe in a few years when I am done paying for my kids' college. I want to go with Extreme Tornado Tours, the one affiliated with Reed Timmer. They had a terrific success rate last year and their first group this year is off to a good start.

Thanks Janet, a definite on my list too, and my last graduates this year! A total of 3 of us going, and Extreme Tornado Tours is one of my top 5 groups. I saw that the first tour group was going straight out from the plane today!

Re: Wx Banter Thread 2.0
Two things about this map, one it's nice to see the variation in F instead of K on their map.
Number two this reinforces what I've said all along, 7 degrees above normal in the November through March period in our area, the warmest above normal stretch in our history. For those that still insist on grading this winter a B or above, who cares if your snowfall was average or slightly above all because of one blizzard some of us happened to luck out on. Barring that we would be calling this the worst winter ever. Could a strong La Nina be any worse? I hope not, it's hard to imagine any worse.

Re: Wx Banter Thread 2.0
While I understand your opinion; seeming weighting a single variable above all others in my opinion is biased. Winter "grades" can vary through region. It is quite obvious the Hudson Valley had a anomalous winter. The lack of snowfall, temperature, and snow cover justify you giving it a "F" grade. Yet, while I was not home for the winter(Plymouth received under 30 inches of snowfall, while we usually see 70-100"); I dont see how you could grade the Mid Atlantic's winter as a F just due to temperature. If we are counting yearly snowfall, not just DFJ, many places were average to above average; even if a high percentage of that came from a single instance. Late season snowfall such as the past one, the mid season cold shot, and the severe weather we saw was all relative to the anomalous nature of the winter itself. The rapid extremes we saw may never be repeated. Thus instead of courteously 'flipping off' the winter, I think that everyone should look at it for its beauty, mostly because of the overall challenges faced forecasting, and the over all extremes we saw over a 4 month period. Now you may not agree, but winter is nnot just about temps, snowfall, and snow cover; its about the beauty of the atmosphere and the anomalies that we can see. Thus I feel it deserves recognition.@CPcantmeasuresnow wrote:
