February 2016 Observations & Discussions

We are 2 months through Meteorological Winter with only 1 month left. February.

January finished around normal in Central Park. Maybe slightly above.



So far, my Winter Outlook is playing out exactly as expected. Warm December, normal-ish January, and hopefully a cold February. I pegged NYC to finish with 30-40" of snow and I am confident we'll fall in that range when all is said and done. Heck, we may finish above 40" but we'll see.

Bottomed out at 27* last night - prediction was 30* - still have some snow pack left around my house I say about 60% albeit a few inches but still hanging on

The models have the heaviest rain falling between 1pm-8pm tomorrow. There will be localized flooding in flood prone zones. 1-2 inches of rain and snow melt is not a good combination.

Areas that face the afternoon sun (west) have NO snowcover left. Areas that face the morning sun (east) still have about 4-6" What a rapid melt of over 2 feet of snow in a little over a week with little to no rain and mostly nighttime freezing temps.

High of 54* currently 39* most of snow is gone and definetly will be tomorrow

21z SREFs seem to come back west with the 5th system a bit... Not sure this threat is totally dead.

Actually the mean is a lotta bit west... Hmmm.

OP 0z NAM is significantly further west as well (not entirely surprising given the 21z SREF)

I asked earlier today about Friday and Frank said it would be very minor at best and a little warm, so don't hold out too much hope.
