March 2016 Observations and Discussions

Can March finally end our constant barrage of month after month of above normal temperatures?

It's now 8 months in a row of above normal temperatures. Several of the months in that time period, September, November, December have been all time record warm months in NYC or in the top 3. The only month below normal in the last 11 was June 2015 which was 0.2 degrees below normal.

I for one am not hopeful that this month breaks that streak.

March 2015 saw 18-20 inches of snow in NYC including a 4.5 inch fall on March 20. Don't expect a repeat.

AHEAD OF IT EARLY THIS MORNING.

IMMEDIATELY IN ITS WAKE...A BRIEF PERIOD OF WESTERLY WINDS OF 20
TO 30 MPH WINDS WITH GUSTS TO 40 TO 50 MPH IS LIKELY BETWEEN 6 AND
9 AM.

THE WINDS WILL CAUSE A FEW DOWNED TREE LIMBS AND ISOLATED POWER
OUTAGES. DRIVING HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES WILL ALSO BE DIFFICULT.

The temp has fallen 2 degrees in 45 minutes.

Wow it is windy this morning..21mph hour 42* and sunny

Getting very windy, dropped 10 deg from 500am to now and gusting to around 40. Secure loose outside articles lol (garbage, recycling, ect.)

25 degrees. How awful.

A chilly 15.4 now but Lee has 64 for TuesdAY and maybe 70 for Wednesday.I think this streak continues as he mentioned above normal for mid March on.

Looking over guidance their is mostly likely going to be a sharp gradient between warm 850s and surface temps with cooler NE flow from High situated over Canadian Maritimes. Southern Half of NE could be in 70s while Northern NE stay cooler in the 40-50s.

So we had a December that temperature wise resembled the typical April and early indications are we will also have a March that resembles the typical April. If April is like April we will have 3 April's in a 5 month period.

What and F'd up winter.

F'd up indeed.Temperatures extremely warm but even with that, the S and E trend of snowstorms these many years provided our posters in those areas with above average snowfall while we in the lower HV got scrooed and the guys above I-84 got skunked.

I've had it with this particular winter.After we get our usual coating to an inch tomorrow, I hope the temps blast into the 60's and stay there.Time to press the re-set button and hope next winter is better for us here in the HV.

In the city you may be right.

More like a laughable coating than an inch. Maybe 1/4 inch at best.

Bring on the 60's next week and just let this sorry ass winter move along!

I have about 2 inches here already still snowing mostly sticking on grassy areas but blacktop is starting to get covered.

Hearing parts of snj.got 5 inches and still going. I'm at 3 inches here and still going.
