I'm assuming this is a mostly non-event for N/NW Jersey judging by all the current forecasts and models, correct?

Probably not much affects from this for areas north & northwest of the city imo. Rain and strong winds etc. will mostly be confined to the coast.

This will effect on the same scale as sandy if Euro plays out, meaning the amount of people and possibly intensity, though I do not think the storm surge will be anywhere near as big. But if this comes in even stronger than modeled like Nutley said, and I agree with then it really could be worse than sandy with winds, especially southern areas from Hudson valley south and East. Tonight I WILL be getting up for the Euro, probably go to sleep and set my alarm.

snow I disagree, as joesnow said the wind field is huge. And could trend stronger.

i really hope you end up being wrong and see your students on tuesday as scheduled.

im all for a good storm, but this is the worst possible timing ( not that there is ever a good time really for such a catastrophic storm) just remembering sandy, being without power for 10 days, gas lines extending blocks and blocks, that was depressing as could be.

imagine now how much worse it would be without power for days when they r expecting temps in the highs 80s again by wed?

is there any chance this does not turn out as bad as it seems now?

i am hoping just like all the winter storms that looked so promising ended up being duds, i am hoping this one turns out like that, bc while i love a monster snowstorm, this has the potential to be devastating for many people.

It's not good to think like that, no one expected the damage Sandy was going to do, and it did. Everyone thought the same and looked what happened, at least be prepared, you never know.

I don't wish damage on anyone. It's horrible, but nature is in control. Living by the water whether ocean or river is Russian roulette. Eventually you will be flooded or ruined. Just a fact of life. Hope it doesn't happen to anyone, but after Sandy if I was bay or beachfront I would have moved.

If euro is right hermine will make landfall very close where Sandy made landfall. Devastating for the Jersey Shore especially Southern Jersey but not that big of a deal for New York City north and west

Everything I've seen shows almost no rain and light to moderate gusts up here. If it turns out like Sandy or worse, god help us all...

Garrett Bastardi (related to JB?) says its very much like Sandy, some are tweeting this could top Sandy, scary thought. I for one realized its still hot out and losing power for 7 days would be aweful compared to cold with sandy. Plus even more foliage than October. Yikes.

Yeah I hear you. After Sandy it would be stupid to not be somewhat prepared at the very least.

It will Top Sandy in Southern New Jersey and with the long duration coastal flooding even up into the bays of New York City and Long Island Sound. The wind maps that everyone posted were 850 Maps we would need some strong conviction to mix those winds down to the surface however models are not showing strong conviction New York City Metro north and west

Really Al? What town are you in? I lost power for 7 days, the gas shortage caused chaos, yes it wasn't the devastation of the shore but I wouldn't say it wasn't a big deal. This could also trend stronger giving even more wind up this way. I know your the last person that wants this but like syo said its out of our control.
