Perhaps my eyes are deceiving me? Right outside my top floor window, I see a tree sprouting tiny, tiny buds. Which wouldn't shock me considering the very mild weather we've been having for this time of season.

45 in DC right now with wind and rain. Let's hope it stays that way down there and RB is wrong or I will lose it.

Re: Wx Banter Thread 2.0
With all due respect to people who have said this is "just a regular rain storm," it is not. Is it catastrophic? No. Is it unprecedented? No. But we do not "regularly" get rain events with prolonged 25-35 mph sustained winds and 40-60 mph gusts inland and 60-70 mph gusts along the shore with storm surge. We also do not "regularly" get rain storms with 1.5" or more of rain in 24 hours combined with those winds. This is not a typical, run of the mill rain event. For those of us who like tracking weather (which I assume is everyone on this board), this is a storm to be impressed by. Saying it is just another rain storm really doesn't do it justice, especially if you are talking to people off this board who rely on some of us to update them on what is going on with the weather. I would hate to tell me co-workers or friends, "its just a regular rain storm" and have them not prepared for the possibility of power outages, downed trees, closed roads, etc. when that is precisely what they rely on me to inform them about.

It is interesting that this storm comes one year to the day as the blizzard last year. Two powerful storms hitting the area on the same day exactly one year apart. One was the height of awesomeness (last year) the other (today) the depth of crapiness. I thought that my least favorite storm was snow changing to sleet then to rain. Today reminds me why that's better than all rain at 38*.

Yeah, this is the type of storm we wait for, and yet it juuuust missed being what we wanted. would have felt better if it was 55* then at least it wouldn't have seemed so close to being a snowstorm.

34.5 and moderate rain has moved in.
This is really depressing. Where's the 20 inches of sleet/snow the NAM promised yesterday. Not a sleet pellet to be seen. I can't remember the last time I wanted to see it sleet in January.
How the mighty have fallen. Oh the humanity.

tell me about it. This morning I was actually hoping for 3 or 4 hours of SLEET. Usually hearing those little ice pellets hit my window is akin to nails on a chalkboard because it means the snow is either done, or is at least temporarily not accumulating worth a damn. Oh the humanity is right!

Maybe this storm should go down in the annals of history as The Hindenburg Blizzard.

Unbelievable, maybe there was some decent wind earlier today but my wife said it wasn't to the level that a HWW would merit. Upton downgraded NYC and southern WC to advisory now, big whoop (doubt that even pans out). I am trumped (pun intended) by those that told me winds never work out (kudos to you, please do not brag, i am aware your right), things are going so badly right now in many ways for me I think I better stay off the forum b4 I say something dumb. Have fun all.

Jman, sorry to hear things are not going well for you. I hope they turn around soon. Hang in there. We actually did get some really strong winds and gusts in NJ during the day, but may not have made it up your way. Hopefully this winter has at least one more big storm left in it, and this time, with snow AND a good wind component for you.

I'll take just snow if its snow, adding wind is just a bonus. I love snow more.billg315 wrote:Jman, sorry to hear things are not going well for you. I hope they turn around soon. Hang in there. I feel like for Bergen County, they always over exaggerate the winds. This wouldn't be the first time I've heard warnings of damaging winds and nothing following behind it. Don't get me wrong, I'm very glad it hasn't happened yet. Most of the warnings in my area are up to 1am. It's already 10:45. Maybe it's delayed, but once again not complaining, don't need those types of winds.

Hector, in 35 years of living in Mahwah Bergen County NJ, the only major wind event that stands out was Sandy.Had to be over 60 MPH gusts that night.Even major snowstorms, the winds were not excessive. Two snowstorms with wind that I remember were the March '93 and Bozing Day 2010.The February 1983 snowstorm, the one that produced 3 inch per hour snowfall rates for 6 straight hours without letup, was DEAD CALM!
