If I even had a remote GUESS as to why I'd offer it, but I am honestly baffled. I'm looking at NWS observations and they all say the same story; generally 1-3" west of I-81, with comparable amounts in our areas of southeastern PA and western NJ. NEPA seems by far to be the jackpot through this point in time, but with the radar returns I saw all night the areas to the west had the same returns as we have had. Different snow growth regimes, maybe? No idea.
The only other thing that I can think of is that we got/are getting a wetter snow than they did, so when ours hit the ground it took longer to melt because of the higher water content (remember, water has a very high specific heat, so it takes a lot of energy to change the energy state of the water from solid, snow flake/low energy, to a liquid, higher energy state achieved through transfer of heat from the ground to the flake). Therefore, our wetter snow could start stacking on itself, since it was not able to completely melt before other flakes fell, whereas theirs did. I don't know lol

Still snowing, albeit lightly, but I just measured 5.8" on my deck, and 6.7" on my usual measuring surfaces-beds of pickup trucks. Accounting for the 0.1-0.2" of snow that has yet to fall, I'll figure it will come out darn close to 6.9" on in the trucks and 6"-even on the deck.

35° huge snowflakes mixing in with rain. .51" of rain so far. Some sleet also mixed in earlier. I was watching the Rutgers game on tv and it was sleeting so hard it chased fans from the stands.

Only a light coating here. Rockland County snow hole continues.
People in the highlands just west of me are reporting 8-12 inches. Crazy if true.

Doc, just finished shoveling that was some heavy snow.
I measured 4.0 inches here but I'm only at elevation 580 feet, and I think some compression had already started when I measured at 8:00 am. Your 5 may be the more accurate measurement but if you're higher up than me and I know some parts of Monroe are close to 1000 feet, that could account for big differences in a storm like this.
Anyhow shades of two years ago, November 26 2014 when we received 10 inches the night before Thanksgiving and the coast was shut out. We received 72 inches two years ago and if this is a sign we're reverting back to the winter of 2014/15 I'll take it. Anything to wipe  out the nightmare of last winter.

Beggars can't be choosers. Here in upper Orange County just about three miles above I-84 at 7 am we had 32 degrees and a light coating. Roads are clear and ground is not quite covered, Â almost sleety. Â About a 1/4 inch. I almost had to use Scotch tape to measure off the driveway. Wow! Â Already at 12% of last year's total for the season.

WHAT?!!! HOW?!! Aha That doesn't even make sense lol What's the approximate elevation?
Im at 900 feet elevation. Just never wanted to stick. Wet snow flakes after pouring rain for about 30min before the changeover. The NWS Binghamton office at 1600ft elevation got 5". Flurrying here now and just about nothing left on the grass.
