36* and Cloudy. No major tree damage in my yard and kept power all night, so that's a win. Saw a story this morning that PSE&G had 34,000 customers without power last night but by this morning was down to under 1,000. Looks like there's been some bad coastal flooding at the shore at high tide this morning as well.

4.3 inches of almost pure sleet. Beats the superstorm of 1993 sleet totals. This is gonna be a bitch to shovel.
Looks like a thin layer of snow in there somewhere that must have changed during the night at some point.
29.7 and light sleet.

Strange that they closed schools today considering we only got a few inches of snow. The roads out in the hillier areas must be pretty bad.

OK, CP, thanks for measuring Buddy.Be careful shoveling, this is pure concrete.Even with temps in the 40's tomorrow and Thursday, think this brick of ice will be around for a while.Temps getting colder after Thursday.
We are almost at last years snow totals CP.Looks like a lock to beat that.

about 1.5" of all rain with a temp between 33 and 37* when rain was falling. so close to a snow storm. what a tease! windy but not like nws forecast for my area. wind was a big bust here. really an ave storm for my town however it will be in my top 25 nightmares of all time. i mean late jan temps low to mid 30's heavy precip and no frozen. thank god it's over!

Holy Molly that would have been 12-18 inches of white stuff. Look at it as half filled , the glass that is - I had all rain with some sleet mixed in at times. Friggin temp got down to 33.6* last night - can Big Momma change the freezing temp to 35*???

so the 3K NAM was great saying you'd have 16" plus which verified to 4" of sleet when the ratios where taken into account.

Re: January 22nd-24th Nor'easter Observations & Discussions
I would love to hear everyone's thoughts on how this storm played out as compared to what was modeled. It seems rain amounts and wind speeds did hit some of the numbers that were forecasted, but my impression is that the overall rain totals across the area fell short of predictions, and the wind was not as strong for the extended period of time expected. There was some mention of inversion keeping the highest winds from mixing down to the surface in the late afternoon and evening yesterday. I'm interested in hearing what other factors played out differently from the predictions.

Dare I mention (alert CP) that the RAINFALL total measured in Central Park is significantly HIGHER than surroundings stations! So if this was snow CPK would have measured higher snow totals than other stations this time? Or would they. lol

Lazy people in CP measuring. With rain, they can wait 12 hours, come out, look and see how much is there. With snow, after 12 hours, it gets weighed down 10-20% and with that, goes the accurate measurement. Wonder if they really measure every 3 hours, swipe the board and measure again 3 hours later?

They don't.
Guidelines are clear the board every 6 hours now but we've established they most likely don't even measure at the Conservancy at the 7PM and midnight readings and if they do they just estimate, always low of course. NOAA doesn't seem to care anymore because unlike years past they haven't even replied to any of my e-mails this year.
I still haven't called the contact Ryan got me and weatherwatchermom called. I've got to get around to that.

Here by the Queens/Nassau county border, the rain is coming down harder than it did at any point yesterday/last night.

I'm going to take a look tonight. I want to compare the soundings, snow maps and obs for the area. See how my experiment went!

Re: January 22nd-24th Nor'easter Observations & Discussions
I've got to say the NAM consistently kept putting where Doc and I are located in a circle of 15-20 inches of snow which verified as 4.3 inches of sleet here which would be very close to the LE sleet to snow.
The NAM is no longer a joke.

Light snow still hanging around here. Wind finally picked up a little. Nothing overwhelming, but enough to get the branches swaying lightly.
