Yes wind rain thunder and lightning on February 25th ugh I can't get much worse. With regards to your cherry blossoms next weekend two meter temps on most of the globals Lows in the teens and low twenties even down to the coast it's really going to screw up the trees this year not to mention the shock to the people who think winter is overDtone wrote:Showtime !

Re: February 2017 Observations & Discussions
Right about 6:15 pm, it started blowing hard and there was a ton of thunder. The rain came, the power went out for a few minutes, but around here power is out all over the place. We got lucky. The temps dropped from 61 to 45 degrees in about 10 minutes. Maybe the fastest drop in temps I have seen. I was one moment enjoying a glass of wine on the deck, then had to run inside. The next time I could go out, I looked like a dragon breathing smoke because it cooled off so fast. Heavy rains, some hail, then it all stopped.

I actually try my best not to swear in my normal conversation but I can't take this sh!t. When you look at Mikes data on temperatures in the weather stats page this current crap we're subjected to just makes me sick. Banter I know but 20 months in a row? When do we break this pattern? I know our climate is getting warmer, undeniable for whatever reason, but once in while we should have a below normal month.

The 19th century is well documented to be a very cold era, some refer to it as a mini ice age. So for me personally, I rather compare decades in the 20th century to get a real idea of the impact of the warmth we're seeing. I remain in the camp that we're in a warm era, seeing sea surface temperatures above normal across the globe, which gives much of these storm systems more fuel to work with. Stronger storms, especially one's that cut to our west, will send incredible warmth northward. So on Wednesday, a strong cutter will give fault to extreme height rise along the EC thus the 70-degree weather. In the past (say mid-20th century) maybe a storm track like that would result in temp departures being +10 instead of +20. Honestly, that is just how I'm going about this whole warming thing. Who knows, maybe it really is global warming and all these activist have a reason to be hyping.
It is bizarre that we're about to see our 20th straight month of above normal.

Getting into the 70s despite lots of clouds and some rain is remarkable on March 1st. Imagine if we get some unexpected breaks of sun for a while.
How valid is "normal" when we never get on the other side of it? Will this uninterrupted stretch get to 2 yrs?
However, we've been lucky we still managed to get decent snow. Chicago has had basically nothing since Dec. Breaking a met winter record of 66 consecutive days without a inch of snow and counting. DC has 1.4" of snow this winter. Philly has 8" We got storms to coincide with transient cold, others haven't been so lucky.

Re: February 2017 Observations & Discussions
I did not realize Chicago has had a crappy winter. I bet areas to their N&W have over 50 inches.
