So it being the last day of May I have received just over 10.0 inches of rain for the month. 10.06 to be exact. This has to be a new record or close too. Does anyone have the records?

Up this way I use the records from Picatinny Arsenal 1926-1971 and my own from 1976- to present.skinsfan1177 wrote:So it being the last day of May I have received just over 10.0 inches of rain for the month. 10.06 to be exact. This has to be a new record or close too. Does anyone have the records?
Picatinny Arsenal had 10.26 in 1947 for the month of May.

I have 6.89", if the thunderstorms get here before midnight I should reach 7", will be the 7th wettest in NJ since 1895.

Just had a decent T'Storm come through. Not much wind but rain and thunder, maybe even a bit of hail by the sound of it. I think the worst of the cell passed just to my north near Basking Ridge.

Re: May 2017 Observations & Discussions
Absolutely amazing t-storm/hail storm just passed through. We watched spectacular cloud to cloud lightning for about 20 minutes and then the first rain drops started. I ran out to close my garage door and I could hear something large falling through the trees. Then one of them hit the grass and made a thud, and then I hear a pop above my head, like a rock hitting wood. As I'm running back to the back door I'm realizing that those are hail stones, and they are not small. But it was dark so I couldn't see those first few. And then the deluge came, then I could see the hail on my deck in the light, and by that point that were larger than marbles. Those first few sounded bigger than that. Large stone size I would guess, but I couldn't see any or find any after. Lots of cool marble size in my freezer with multi-layer, bullseye look to them. Crazy experience!

Re: May 2017 Observations & Discussions
It just skirted by me, had a decent lightning show but it was nust to my south, heading NE. Of course, I want to get to 7" precip for the month and I'm going to fall short by .11" if that second line in NWNJ doesn't get here

I just saw something I doubt many can say, or I will ever say again. Pouring rain, lightning all under a very clear moon and stars off to my west, wth I couldnt even make out any clouds of where the rain was coming from above?! Amazing.

Yes! I was as clear as a bell on one side, and a monster thunder head on the other, with a moon chaser.
This is a picture from a neighbor, and I believe that is about the size of the ones that fell in the first few seconds of the storm...

Re: May 2017 Observations & Discussions
Hope everyone is doing well. Have not felt great lately, but doing better. Looks like we're staying dry until Sunday/Monday next week, and temps will hover near normal to slightly below. Next week does not look very warm. 60's and 70's. Personally disappointed with the weather so far. We're in June and still not seeing consistent 80's show up!

Re: May 2017 Observations & Discussions
Well the May data is in and for everyone complaining (not on this board but friends and family of mine) how cold the spring has been digest these stats.
April was the second warmest April on record.
May was slightly above normal for 3 of the reporting stations and slightly below for the 3 others.
The breakdown was as as follows
Central Park -1.3
La Guardia +0.7
JFK -0.1
Islip +0.1
Bridgeport +0.5
Newark -1.6
When you add up the 6 NYC area stations for May the average was -0.3 degrees. Pretty much right on average for the month. We've had so few of those the last decade people seem to forget what normal is.
