Yep.Watch a big cutter and temps up in the 50's with 2-3 inches of rain.I've seen that a lot after a cold spell.

Come up to NH when I go back to school. We have 3' on the ground......and counting. We will probably end up somewhere near 100" when all is said and done this winter.syosnow94 wrote:Woke up to SCI lowered. Only for eastern LI, anything west of Nassau County will see little.

Re: December Obs and Discussion
NWS Upton,
As weak low pressure approaches from the west, mainly light snow
expected for the majority of the area on Saturday, with the most
likely time frame from late morning into the afternoon west, and
afternoon/early evening out east. Snow accumulations in most
places should be about an inch from NYC north/west, and at least
1-2 inches farther east, due to high snow ratios despite
relatively modest QPF. These snow ratios should drop off from
about 20:1 to 15:1 in the afternoon as warm advection warms
saturated low layers enough to lead to some riming. Meanwhile, a
leading mid level shortwave disturbance and upper level jet
streak passing through will likely induce development of a weak
inverted trough or surface low just south of Long Island, with
an associated zone of low level convergence leading to somewhat
higher snow totals across parts of Suffolk County on Long
Island, especially the south shore and east end, and so have
issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the entire county. Worst
case scenario per multi-model ensemble guidance would lead to
amounts about 1-2 inches higher than forecast, with at least 3
inches from NYC east, and 4-5 inches for Suffolk.

Re: December Obs and Discussion
With December likely finishing between -2 and -3 below normal and January likely averaging below normal with the first 10 days well below normal. Add in November and I would like to know when was the last time we had 3 months in a row of below normal temperature departures. Mike or cp can you let me know

Re: December Obs and Discussion
9.6 degrees with steady light snow. At the very least it's freshening up the 2.5 inch snow pack that has steadfastly endured since Christmas morning. I'll take 1-2 inches today and run with it.
It's still amazing to me with all of this arctic air around that we haven't breached zero yet, but I think that's finally coming Sunday night.
Winter as it should be.
I'll check on that Al.

16* with moderate fluffy snow about halfway up the Jersey coast. NWS calling for 2-4".
Judging by the radar, this could be a nice little event for much of the area.
