I hate to ask this, but I am supposed to be traveling to Lynbrook, LI tomorrow for an early family Christmas celebration starting at 1pm. What can I expect in terms of conditions? Thanks in advance for any information.

Nothing like drinking and tracking or more or less reading others reports about upcoming storm. 1st snow of year the year I am suprised how dead the forum is.

True but this board usually blows up days before for moderate events like this. Its usually about the tracking more then the event. Yes performance is important but it is what leads to it that matters.

On accuweather radar u can actually see when the heavy snow is above u its cool. That one atorm a few years back i watched the heavy bands stop in queens and head back out it was cool and heart breaking at same time

Precip will start moving more northerly when partial phase happens between upper trough and low. Dutchess county still looks like it should get 3 to 4 inches.

Re: December 9th Storm - Snow Map
Okay it is bizarre that literally no one is here, but with the non event hurricanes over the summer/fall we had more action and this is what we are all about SNOW! I guess we see who the true weenies are lol

We will see what the radar looks like in the morning.NWS has me now 3 to 4 inches so its a bump up from the 1 to 3 earlier.

Re: December 9th Storm - Snow Map
For anyone still up worried about the lack of precip fret not. Looking at the current 500mb charts you can see the trough is still positive tilt. It wasn't supposed to go neutral until tomorrow. The other absolutely beautiful feature is the 300mb jet streak in absolutely ideal position and is 160+kts!! When the low moves further north and the trough tilts towards neutral you will see the precip expand N&W and heavy bands set up with really nice upper level divergence in the R rear quadrant of that jet streak. Remember this is supposed to be a moderate event. I'm off to bed. Be on in the am. Ciao!

Re: December 9th Storm - Snow Map
Short range models such as the HRRR put the onset of accumulating snow north and west of NYC around noon and expanding as the two systems interact later in the afternoon - and even at that, very dry air up here to over come. Hopefully some banding will get pulled back NW after saturation as the low wraps up... looking fwd to seeing some good snows as my Christmas lights turn on this evening!

Sculls I’m with you. I’m worried. Yes I saw what sroc4 posted and I trust him but snow was supposed to start around 6 am. It’s 5:15 and the radar is absolutely empty over all of Jersey save for a flurry or two. Not gonna lie. IM GOING BACK TO BED BUT IM WORRIED. HOPE sRoc is right.

I just looked at a radar and nothing in nj. At all the whole day. Did this move east because it is obvious we are not getting anything based on the future radar I looked at kinda sad. The Mets and models messed up bad here.
