First measurement. 1”. Light to moderate snow. Sticks to pavement when intensity picks up. Melts when it dies down.

Re: December 9th Storm - Snow Map
Down to32* and moderate snow. About 1" on grass but roads and sidewalks still wet. Cold enough now that if it comes down heavy I think it may stick to paved surfaces, but when light to moderate will continue to present stickage issues until about 4 pm when the sun starts to go down.

Re: December 9th Storm - Snow Map
Down to 33.3* Thus far itsbeen mostly light snow without any accumulation. Only in the last 30-45mins has the grass started to get covered. New update from Upton is encouraging for us Islanders:
Minor changes were made with this update to reflect the latest
trends in observations and guidance. The forecast appears on
track.
12Z RAOBS show NAM has fairly well diagnosed upper jet
structure, capturing 195KT maximum observed at KCAR and 175KT
AT KALY at 250 hPa. So feel confident region will experience
right rear quadrant of upper jet, with associated enhancement of
upward vertical velocities. This coupled with developing
frontogenesis associated with development of coastal front just
off of Long Island coast, should support development of banding
over eastern Long Island/SE CT. This presents a low to moderate
probability of 1/2 to 1 inch per hour snow fall rates in the
afternoon and evening in vicinity of the warning area. As a
result, feel current warning/advisory structure makes sense. Do
note slight increase in qpf in latest guidance over eastern
zones, but want to make sure trends continue before adjusting
snow amounts.

Re: December 9th Storm - Snow Map
Moderate snow. 31.8”. Closing in on 2” on the colder surfaces. Pavement wet. Slushy in a few spots. Bigger flakes. 6 more hours of this and we will get to 5” on colder surfaces. Looking at radar solid moderate snow from Nassau/Suffolk border northwest and west to pa/ny border and sprints south. Real heavey band around Philly.

30 degrees with moderate snow starting to stick on the roads otherwise mostly on grass service . Otherwise it is so beautiful outside a winter wonderland especially on the trees and the Christmas decorations

Re: December 9th Storm - Snow Map
A little over 2” here. Looking at the radar I am not convinced this pans out. Radar in Jersey looks to be breaking up and reorganizing into 2 bands. One western Jersey and Hudson Valley. Other one eastern half of Long Island. That would put NYC metro and western LI coastal NJ in very light snow rest of the afternoon. Hope I’m wrong

Re: December 9th Storm - Snow Map
At about 2 pm up here in northwest Orange County, it is about three inches. Flakes started big and now regular-sized. Temps hovering at 32 degrees. Watching the birds hit the bird feeder and drinking hot cocoa. Pleasant to see the first snowfall...

Re: December 9th Storm - Snow Map
Same here Jimmy, a little over 2.29 degrees, roads snow covered.Traffic subsided .Snow intensity dropped to light-moderate right now.Frank nailed it on his map for my neck of the woods. As Al said, a nice early event, it is still Fall. Can't figure the radar but maybe the storm intensifies as it rides by us.Will be happy to get 3 or 4 out of this one.Perfect timing to set the mood for Christmas!

Re: December 9th Storm - Snow Map
As of 1 PM, CPK is at 1.8" while LGA is at 1.4", 0.9" at JFK, and 1.4" at EWR. Knowing the January 7th and 14th events, the CPK snow measurements were good through the afternoon, but by 7 PM, it dropped the ball and made controversial measurements. The snow is set to continue beyond 7 PM. Will it do well then?
PS: CP, where are you????

Re: December 9th Storm - Snow Map
Radar has been awesome philly on west. Philly to Allentown to Harrisburg jackpot. Got to be 4-5” there already. Significantly lighter here now. The pavement was snow covered 15 minutes ago. Already melted. Not enough intensity and duration.
Need another 1/2” then all the grass blades are covered and I’ll feel better. So far a big letdown down here Let’s hope for some back building
