Re: March 2nd Nor'easter Update
so I guess the storm is producing its own cold air but does that mean the storm is intensifying quicker than originally thought?

hyde345 wrote:BTW most pro mets did a horrible job with this. NWS Albany had no mention of snow possibility until yesterday and still have me in flood watch and just added a wwa late yesterday. My daughter who lives in Albany didn't even know it was going to snow until I let her know yesterday and now they are expecting a foot. The weather channel still says 1-3 which is a joke. Power outages are already being reported and its snowing heavily. I guess thats what happens when you hug the GFS.
Couldn't agree more. They really sh!t the bed on this one....
Just saw Winter Storm Warnings now issued for Morris and Warren Counties 4-8 inches expected.

Re: March 2nd Nor'easter Update
What does not make sense is that real time radar shows the r/s line barreling south thru the NJ, all the way to the coastline...but the future radar keeps showing the line retreating hastily northward. Not sure what to believe, but:
On the one hand, it's snowing here and not raining, the past radar says r/s line is heading south, the pros on here say it will head south, and the 'process' says the r/s line heads south.
Future cast radar and all the TV pros and TWC and NWS all say the warm air wins...
It's literally like watching a football game. So far the snow here is winning, but the wind is losing...still early though...

Talk about bust forecasts. Just spoke with my dad under a Winter Storm Warning for 12-24” locally 30”. He currently has a coating only and it’s mixing. He’s actually driving on Rt 209 to Kingston and it’s raining. But here on LI it’s snowing. Mind blowing

We will see in the end but I think the gang at NJStrong Weather have done a hell of a job alerting everyone to the hazards we are now w experiencing, maybe not the snow totals, but the hazards.

Re: March 2nd Nor'easter Update
The back end of this seems to be near the Allentown PA area...will this line hold for awhile due to the nature of the system or will it progress into New Jersey?

NW of you in the Catskills my dad 15 miles west of Kingston up in elevation has a rain snow mix and a coating. That’s it. rb had mentioned dynamic cooling occurring close to the upper level low and areas further away being warmer. This may be playing out exactly how he said

Wow, thats interesting. You would think it would be snowing there too being further north and west but radar shows a green blob just west of the thruway. Weird. I could understand the NWS forecast in that area even though it may bust but I have an issue with how they handled the forecast in general seemingly to totally disregard some hi-res models that were indicating a significant snow possibility in many areas for days.

Flemington seemingly getting royally screwed at this point. Snow to the North, snow to the East, snow to the West.

Crazy syosnow. It kind of reminds me of that 2010 storm were people north of me got rain and to the south they got the snow like cp said.

Re: March 2nd Nor'easter Update
I've had a pretty steady dose of snow for the past 30 min...I don't care if none of it accumulates (which right now looks to be the case!), this is a total victory for RB, Billg, WxBob, Sroc, Muggs and all the other LR geniuses...so much of it has already come to fruition...frickin' amazing...again!

Probably the worst conditions I’ve seen since Boxing Day
28 white out. Winds gusting close to 50 mph. 6 inches on ground.

Absolutely!! Guys on here did a great job with this. Shout out to Rb, Sroc, Mugs, Al, yourself and whomever I missed. I know this was/is a very difficult forecast given the complexities of this system and uncertain thermal profiles. My problem is with some pros who just absolutely refused to acknowledge the possibilty of a colder and more wintry setup especially in my area where it was a distinct possibility given the info we had. Weather forecasting is a difficult job and I give these guys a lot of slack because it is an inexact science but in this case a lot of pros absolutely crapped the bed on this one.
