Re: January 2019 Observations and Discussions
Yes, I had 17 too this morning. Can't hold the woodstove back when it is that cold or colder outside. The ground crunched under my feet while I was walking the dog. I sounded like a Buick hotrodding through the woods.

Amazing that it’s gonna rain tonight. Currently 27 degrees under sunny skies! Cold air is entrenched. Crazy how quickly it’s going to get taken over

Re: January 2019 Observations and Discussions
32* here with a dew point of 8*. The cold air seems pretty solid here so not expecting it to just cave later without at fight at the onset. Therefore I'm expecting (around here) that we will start with frozen (snow or sleet/freezing rain) precipitation overnight before the change to rain around daybreak.
In the more short-term. That leading line of snow/sleet in PA that was forecast to dissipate when it got to NJ seems to be hanging strong so far. I think we might see a brief period of snow/sleet between 5 and 7 this evening in North-Central NJ before the main area of precip comes in later tonight.

I agree. And looks like the radar is knocking on our door. Maybe first batch will surprise us with the goods.

Re: January 2019 Observations and Discussions
26 degrees up here. There is a merest of glaze on everything; when the dog walked on it, she left no footprints. Two-hour delay for schools up here. I checked the deck with my hand: slippery. It looks like a thinner than a paper sheet's worth of glaze was spray painted on. Exactly the kind of mess that is nothing yet everything in terms of making the roads nasty. I wouldn't be going out on this for no money.

Re: January 2019 Observations and Discussions
Not much here. Some ice and a coating of snow.
The RGEM did pretty awful with this system. It forecasted 1-3" of snow for N&W of NYC. Not that I really bought into it, but goes to show that the RGEM is not all that like some people suggest.
Anyway, going to be mild today and tomorrow before an arctic blast moves in Thursday night.

yes I do and do not usually take it for granted..but it is foggy dreary as is my mood and our health in the last week. We have all had the FLU....and finally trying to get back to our lives...so today I am not my usual cheery self...but thank you for reminding me....so I will have a cup of tea and try to snap out of it!! (and of course deal with disinfecting and putting the house back in order

Re: January 2019 Observations and Discussions
Joanne, I recommend honey ginger tea. When kids are not around, a dollop of whiskey. As for my other “today” observation, I note that after today, it is that cold/dry loop for 10 days. Where goes our moisture when it gets cold?

Feel better. NO ONE (except for Hector and possibly Mikey) ARE HAPPY. THIS HAS BEEN THE MOST MISERABLE WINTER I CAN REMEMBER.
