Re: Banter Thread 5.0
One more thing. Around here, I have really noticed dead and dying trees as in a definite increase in tree mortality. Is anyone else seeing this in your areas? Here, oaks are just keeling over, and to my surprise elms and ash. Ash and elm, I understand and I was surprised to see I even had some out in the woods nearby. Most have been gone for a long time. But even apple trees are dying and remarkably so as in spring they look good and by now, they are 90% dead. If this continues, it will be quite obvious next year. Is it all the rain or pests? I don't know if it is weather related but definitely something bad going on.

Trees are going to brown in Westchester for weeks now. I took a ride up to highland ny this weekend for apple picking and it's very sad it's all brown leaves up there

I'm up on a mountain in Monroe NY not far from Highlands and I am seeing some trees with nice color, bright yellows and oranges. There are trees that are pretty dull though. They are changing a few weeks ahead of last year at this time.Maybe this extended dry spell has caused the browning of the trees.

I was up in Warwick today for wine and apples, and driving up towards you there were a lot of brown trees, hardly any color. But closer to Warwick there were some nice colors, but mostly yellow.

Moderate VEI3 or 4 eruption from Shiveluch in the high latitudes in Russia.
A 1/2 he eruption sending large quantities of aerosols and particulates 31K ft into the atmosphere.
This is the 4th such eruption from this volcanoe alone this year and there have been about a dozen that have had moderate eruptions this year.
It will have an affect of the weather, to what degree remains to be seen.
Lastly the Real Madrid fault is awakening in Miss region. God help us if that subtlexes to a major level.of say 7. Last time in the early 1800's -1813/14 I believe, it wrecked tremendous havoc to the mid section and this would interrupt many of our natural resource transportation modes.

Yes sir and our natural gas, oil and Petro chemical lifeline would be severed. Peeps have no and I mean no idea what this would do and mean for us up here in the Mid Atlantic and Northeast.

Janet,
Might be an elevation thing with cooler temps. We were at the Warwick Winery one weekend and the Demarest Winery last.Scheurmann's Farm on the road to the Warwick Winery has the best sweet corn for sale EVER.There is another we want to get to, the Clearview Winery off RT 94.
When I get down the mountain and on the Route 17 by the Red Apple Rest and drive south, I do see lot's of brown.Hopefully, the shorter days and cooler temps will ignite the remaining green trees into better color.

Re: Banter Thread 5.0
Looking forward to getting back to forecasting on a more frequent basis and having a greater presence here. I should be good to go in about a weeks time. The Long Range thread will return and we can finally start talking about colder temps and snow. Will also be activating the SCI again this year - Snow Confidence Index - for at least one inch of snowfall or more to fall in a given time.

Welcome back Chief! Let's get geared up for what is hopefully a better winter season than last.
I see that Accuweather just released their long-range winter outlook and are calling for a stormy (snow and ice) winter in the northeast. Will be interesting to see what others have to say in the coming weeks.

It is hard to believe the nice weather will not continue but we know for sure in two weeks we are game for frost and in seven weeks, we hit December. Seven weeks (or fewer) to batten down the hatches, get the deck furniture covered, the leaves up, the snow blower ready, and get hot chocolate into the house.

The town of my wife, Pwarl River and many many peeps we know from there are in shock and deep mourning as a young man from the town High School was killed tonight in a most horrific car accident. Tou may have or will see this on the news outlets. We were taking our son back to Quinnipiac as we were detoured and in our hast to find a route we passed by the wrecking. The car crashed off a 15' overpass onto railroad tracks and burst into flames. There is wird that 2 teenagers were killed. One was identified as a young man from the Pearl River High School and football. Tragic just tragic.

I was going to post how the scrolling headline is so encouraging, but Im going to be muted considered recent tragic posts. However, I do recall a Haloween snow, and it was a dangerous situation because leaves were still on trees.

Re: Banter Thread 5.0
There have been at least two pre-Halloween storms up here, maybe three. One was middle of the month. One was quite heavy. As for the car in question, seeing a picture of it is a sobering reminderr my son will drive soon. So will soon after my daughter. Tears fall down; they never fall up. It is terrible to see such an accident and a reminder to parents to talk to their children about loss and prevention while we still can, hoping never to see such a thing again. Bless the families picking up the pieces.

Wow that's so sad years ago the exact same thing happened to a man I knew son in Pearl River off a cliff his son died later in hospital passenger was fine . I'd be curious to know if was same spot. Maybe they need to take better care to secure stronger guard rails.

Eye Candy my SNOW WEENIES!!
The Elevations/mountains will see snow by this time and could be wet mangled flakes to the coast. This isnt the KOD type of winter set up IMO

Tonight’s Yankees-Astros game has been postponed due to the rain in the forecast. Now that it’s been called, watch the rain fizzle out so that it dries out by 8 PM and all the rain is to the East. =P

this would put a lot of people without power ala 2011. Even coast sees 3 to 5. Not good verbatim. Will this be able to pull in its own cold like system in 2011? I remember them saying rain it started as sleet right to snow and knocked down a ton of trees.amugs wrote:Eye Candy my SNOW WEENIES!!
