Ya the wind is going to be nuts and for a good 12 hrs or more I think (fluctuating from time to time, the passage of the front being the most intense), with all the rain should not have any problem mixing down unfortunately. Honestly I could care less about the wind if its pouring rain out, its when I can go outside and feel its raw power that I relish. Plus no one needs lights out for xmas eve or day. I see HWW criteria being likely. Coastal flooding def too. The winds do a crazy shift too and it looks to be two rounds of 50+ mph gusts, maybe 60+ with front.
Really hoping power stays on especially seeing how cold it will get
Ya no kidding, being there's no leaves on the trees I think it will be much less of a issue than say when there is foliage. But once you top 55 or so that can cause branches etc. to go. We will see what SR shows in terms of wind but I think it may verify being such a powerful dynamic system its enormous if you look at the 850mb wind map (theres a period of 75+ kt 850mb winds over the area for a pretty long period, so that easily translates to 60moh or so..) and then 40-50 for even longer duration on Thursday and after the front passes on Friday. It literally has strong winds from the Midwest into Canada into Maine down to Carolinas. I am just as bummed as everyone this would been a epic blizzard for us. Everything I could want and I would loved the wind in a snowstorm, its fun haha. I have ski goggles, nice thermal snowsuit, I look ridiculous being out like that in Yonkers probably but who cares lol.

Oh yeah! I remember this like it happened yesterday. Here in Deer Park I measured 12 inches of wind whipped snow. The temperature a been well up in the 40's before the storm moved in and then BOOM iot just starts snowing real hard and the tempeature plummets! Great storm.
That said, now I want nice warm weather!

LOL, well, now you did it Mugsy, so I must bore everybody with my story of that day.
Tuned into the Weather Channel back when it was a good station and the announcer then stated.."we have the rarest of situations today, an April Blizzard". It wasn't too bad when I opened my office at 8 am, but it started coming down heavy shortly after and cancellation calls started .When there was 3 or 4 inches with heavy wind blown snow, I figured I had to get the heck out of Dodge while I still could. Was driving a 1977 Ford Granada with rear wheel drive.Left around 11 am and just barely got home to Mahwah, about 2 miles up the line.Roads got real bad fast.CP remembers all this especially how cold it got afterwards!
Just can't grasp how 40 years flew by.Seems like yesterday !

Monitoring February 4th
Rough situation in the Hudson Valley, with ~600 outages ongoing (~50K people). While we're waiting for more ice observations to come in, @nysmesonet estimates highlight the peak outage zone with ~.7" flat ice (~.3" radial). This is often an outage inflection point. #nywx pic.twitter.com/XD8XbG4PSO

September 2021 Observations and Discussions
NOT GOOD, NOT GOOD AT ALL. Not on same level as last week but this rain is just plain insane. I was driving the saw mill parkway yesterday and you could see the mud line of the trees and it was unbelivable hpow high it was, also many trees knocked over purely by water and probably the rain washing the roots out (plus the gusty winds) The water has since receded but as the WPC says any areas that see 2 inches will be prone to more flooding and many many people have not even close to recovered.amugs wrote:The WPC has placed parts of the region in either a slight or marginal risk for excessive rainfall tomorrow afternoon/evening. billg315 wrote:Not directly weather-related, but this is the time of year when I always first start to notice that the days are getting shorter and the sun is setting earlier (even though that technically starts happening in early July, but at first it is subtle and not much to note). Sunset tonight at 8:14, and by the end of this month it will be at 7:34.
Morning dew on the lawn these last two mornings = summer fading. My dad's friend would always say, You know when summer is ending - dew on the grass!
Buddy in Franklin, NY temp yesterday morning 45*, guy I taught and coached and is a pro met lives in Saranac Lake had a low .......39* - made a fire in his wood burning stove to get the chill out of his home -ITS JULY 31ST for heaven sake!
This is a huge temp difference for UHI city. The night time temps are usually and have been warmer than normal and daytime highs are lower than normal. 1.5* is big IMO for coolness.
Central Park and LaGuardia Airport finished 1.5°F below normal for the month of July. #nywx

Get ready for manana peeps- could be severe and a few rounds as per the SR convective modelsThe 18z 3k NAM renews this theme & it is not unimpressive on the simulated IR satellite product. Be on alert if you have outdoor activities planned tomorrow afternoon into the evening. These thunderstorms may develop & strengthen quickly.
