Welcome to May.
56* and Partly Sunny. Big improvement from yesterday. Was at the shore and the rain was coming down in buckets -- windblown, sideways buckets.

Felt cold enough for snowflakes with the rain showers this morning, but was actually in the mid 40s. Wouldn't be surprised to see those higher elevation areas get some flakes with this pattern.

Post by dkodgis Tue May 02, 2023 11:28 am

I got a bit of virga the other day. That was surprising. 48 here at 11:20 and chilly, damp. It is too warm for a fire and I am too cheap to turn the heat on. I just hate buying into a rigged commodity market. Doc, what's my alternative?

Raining right now. About 1/8 of an inch today. I am surprised the stream and wetlands on my property did not come up higher. It really did not flood at all up here. I guess the water had a place to go. Speaking of going, I think I see the coolness going in about 10 days. The leaf out has happened, way early, and things will really pop if we get some warmth and sunshine. If and when the grass dries out, I may have to get a herd of goats to take care of the lawn. It's ugly business. Too wet to cut and the longer I wait, too high to cut easily.

CO2 Not Driving the climate - .04% trace gas doesn't have the power to do so IMO as we have been told by the "experts"since 1988. Its a normal cycle, like the medieval warm period that lasted hundreds of years and we did not have the "fossil fuel" sources used at all back then.

The Asian jet stream usually winds up more in the south of the US, right? So is this a bit unusual or just typical weather? A negative spike is cooler and a positive spike is warmer (I guess I have that right) but the location of the stream can vary a bit and it is more of a player down south?

Happy mothers day to all the moms. LR 18z GFS has our first tropical cyclone develop off SE coast and meander for days, yes fantasy land but before long will be tracking season for tropics for those that care.

Mom's I think will relate to this clip lmao

Freeze watch tonight bring it on. Would be one of the later freezes in the 2000’s if it happens.

I’m officially grading this past winter an F- despite the March snows bringing the total to 28 inches for the season taking it out of last place in my records. The record breaking temperatures clinched the grade.

Many years ago when I lived in Mahwah NJ and had an organic vegetable garden, there was a freeze warning around this time.Had to cover all my tomato plants with cans to protect them.Frosts are possible around these parts at this late date.

I agree Doc, May freezes are the norm not the exception and I’m not implying otherwise, the average date of the last freeze in Orange County is May 5th. This would be taking it two weeks past the normal date which in our warming climate (for whatever reason, and I’ve made my thoughts clear on who and what I blame for that, has been more the exception than the rule.

Of course just a couple of years ago we had our beautiful May 9th snow which accumulated an inch during an intense squall in the late morning. Temperature never got much above the high 30’s that day and even NYC recorded a trace.

Let’s see what tonight brings.
